Kitts Thomas Obituary

Kitts Bertha Thomas, was born on the 10th of June, 1936 in Evarts, Kentucky to Leonard and Effie Johnson Jones and passed away peacefully at home in Houston surrounded by her family on the 21st of December 2013. Her amazing smile which lit up the room and her caring heart will be missed by all.
Although born in Kentucky, at a young age Kittsie moved with her family to Knoxville Tennessee. She attended South High School and married Charlie Thomas, the love of her life, on the 27th of July, 1952. In 1957, Kittsie and Charlie moved from Knoxville to officially become Texans.
Kittsie was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who cared deeply about her family and friends. She was kind, generous, fun loving and an avid volunteer.
Kittsie loved spending every moment she could with her family. She took great pride in the many milestones achieved by her children and grandchildren.
Not only was Kittsie a constant fixture at her children's and grand children's school and sporting events, she was also an avid Rockets fan. As a fan and owner, Kittsie attended every Rockets game at home or away. She treated each player just like one of her own children and was a passionate courtside fixture, often getting reprimanded by the referee's too settle down.
Since 1981, she spent part of every year in California, one of her favorite places to visit with family and friends. Celebrating birthdays and holidays was always important to Kittsie, especially Christmas and Easter. Her generous spirit and warmth insured that all were welcomed into her home to join in the celebration, whether she had known you for years or had only just met you.
Kittsie passionately supported, actively worked and was honored by many organizations including Search Homeless Services, Interfaith Ministries, The University of St. Thomas, Trees of Hope, Easter Seals, and the UTMB School of Nursing in Galveston. Her legacy for serving in the community will continue through the Kittsie and Charlie Thomas Family Foundation.
Kittsie was preceded in death by her brother Leonard Jones, Jr. and her parents, Leonard and Effie Jones. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 61 years Charlie Thomas, her children, Kelly Ann Thomas and her husband Michael Alexander; Robin Thomas Klaes and her husband Danny; Tracy Lee Everist and her husband Jeff; her cherished grandchildren, Charles Tristan Schmidt, Chaz Klaes and his wife Tany, Dakota Klaes, Kittsie Klaes, Adam Everist, Mason Everist, Troy Everist, and Drake Everist. She also leaves behind her loving sisters Ora Amann and Axie Jones.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Jay B. Davis, Dr. Emily Barker, and Madeline Bunch, R.N., as well as the all nurses and caregivers, especially friend Mary Jane Tucker who loved and cared for Kittsie during her illness.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o'clock in afternoon until eight o'clock in the evening, Sunday, the 29th of December, in the parlor and grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
A memorial service is to be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Monday, the 30th of December at St. Martins Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road in Houston, where the Rev. Martin J. Bastian, Senior Associate Rector for Pastoral Care, is to officiate. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in the adjacent Bagby Parish Hall.
Prior to the services, the family will have gathered for a private interment at Woodlawn Garden of Memories Cemetery in Houston.
