To think of Emmanuel Baptist is to think of Kory Lewis.During my years as a member of Emmanuel, Kory was the cornerstone- fine-detailed event planning, leadership in too many areas to mention, office help and filled in when our office admin was away, launched projects, made certain our pastors were taken care of, supporter of missions, sat on boards.... My husband, Bill Murray, Morag Maclachlan and Kory (Gwen Turvey) started school in grade 1 together in Chilliwack and were pals all through grade 12. They lost contact with one another over the years but finally met up about ten years ago.
Morag had a cottage at Cultus Lake and Bill, Kory and I (as chaperon!) were invited to visit for a few days in the summer. This invitation extended every year until 2011 when Morag became ill. We enjoyed the company and all the reminiscence of school...

Kory Lewis

As an impressionable young teacher (about 1962) I first became aware of Kory when I attended the AGM of the BC Teachers Federation in Vancouver to which I was a delegate from the Chilliwack Association. My then school principal, Joy Batty (died this February), a lifelong friend of Kory's, was the connection. I recall that Kory was very kind to us “newbies”. As I continued my teaching career, I frequently heard Kory's name mentioned by Joy (Batty).
