Charlie and I lived next door to Laurel and Orrie on Warren Street for almost twenty years. She was a wonderful neighbor with a wry sense of humor, discerning style, and zest for life. When our youngest son was born, a caboose 12 years after our other children were teenagers, Laurel made a big fuss. She gave him a marvelously designed MFA rattle, and offered to babysit while I went to Kurkman´s grocery store. Her son Hank played lacrosse with our boys in our backyard, and her daughter Trudy went to Concord Academy where I was a trustee and alum.
Laurel suffered more than her fair share of life´s tragedies which she shouldered with grace and fortitude. It wasn´t that she didn´t complain, but she always forgave. She loved her family beyond measure, and her grandchildren to pieces. Godspeed Laurel, my friend.
