Eulogy for Larry Healy
Family: Larry Healy was a wonderful man. He and his wife, Doe, would have been married 70 years in June. He was a simple man. He believed in family, faith, friends and service.
He gave his children a Catholic education; working overtime made it possible. Dad told his children to do their best.
Patti went to business college. Pam got a nursing degree and rose to the rank of Major in the US Army. Jay attended Ohio State. Mary Ann has a Ph.D in psychology. Joe has an accounting degree from San Francisco State. John is a big-rig driver. Andrew is an electrician.
Dad didn't miss a birthday or graduation. He recognized that his children were all different, and he accepted us all.
Dad loved when we were together, especially at Christmas.
Faith: Larry has a deep devotion to Mary. He attended Bible study for years. He attended Mass often and said a rosary every night. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul. He served as an usher at St. Mary's, and he loved the choir. He was ready for Paradise!
Friend: Larry was known as Lar, Bud, Bro, and Big and Powerful. He never met a stranger. He loved to talk about anything and everything. He loved to share stories. Many of his friends tried to end the conversation - to NO avail! He was an avid reader. He read the obits every day. He called it “winning the Irish lottery” if he was not in the paper. His friends were diverse. They loved him, too.
Service: Dad was very patriotic. He served in World War II in Japan as a Weather Observer. Dad was a stereotyper like his father. He went on the Honor Flight two years ago.
His work history includes: Escort Officer for the Labor Department, census taker, poll worker, painter, and his favorite was being Santa Claus at Macy's.
Larry did have some problems with words. Some examples: A Jewish man wears a "Yamaha." If he were out in the dessert, he would eat it! Mark Spitz guarded the Pyramids.
He was always ready for a poker game.
He and Mom loved the Barrington, where they lived for the past few years. They were the "fun" couple. They managed the quarantine well. Dad was at Good Sam for three weeks. He got to talk to Doe over the IPad. There was plenty of talking. The screen was full of kisses.
We will miss you, Dad. Thank you for all you did for us. You will never be forgotten.
LOVE YOU, DAD!

I guess I have known Larry Healy the longest. We grew up together on Edmondson Road 2 houses apart. I would watch their basketball court and join Paul and Jim & Bro when ever they played. We both went to Purcell High School. Doe came in the picture after his stint in the Army. We both served in Japan. He surprised me one day in Kyoto in the mess hall.
After the Army we took different routes, I went to Xavier and he became a stereotyper at the Enquirer.
We both married about 1 year...

Mr. Healy was such a gentle and loving man . He and Doe were inseparable. If you saw one, the other was close by...
Mr. Healy would always come to help Doe and all of us lunch room mother helpers in St. Marys cafeteria after he retired . He always was joyous and never complained . He simply loved being with kids and helping out ! His nature was to be kind and thoughtful.
Heaven has just acquired a great man . We will miss him here on earth !! ❤Love from Cheryl, Megan, Corey & ...

We loved being across the street neighbors for decades of Larry and Doe.Our only regret is that we stood between the Healy's and the church.(As if anything could stand between the Healy's and the church.) Our Love to Doe and the good life she had together with her beloved Larry.

Larry was a gentle, caring man. I never heard him say a harsh word about anyone. He was a humble veteran. He was Doe's best friend. Doe once told me after one of their significant wedding anniversaries that she was so blessed to still be in love with her best friend. He will be missed.
