I just saw Lee Roy last week. He was outside by the Library on Exposition Blvd. I saw him almost every morning at Randalls on Lake Austin Blvd and he also helped me with my cars at the Chevron in Tarrytown. He was a sweet man and will be dearly, and longingly missed!

Lee Roy was indeed an icon in Tarrytown. He knew every customer by name at the Gulf station on the corner. He was a mentor to my brother, whom he called "little Doc", when he worked at the Gulf station as a teen. He even helped me get my dad's truck started when I snuck it out before I had a license...that was more than 30 years ago, and it seems like yesterday. I'm sure he never told my parents. And although I moved away from Austin 26 years ago, Lee Roy always remembered me by name...

It was just a few weeks ago when I last saw Lee Roy while driving by the Texaco station with my Mom so she could see her old house. The simple sight of him brought back fond memories of my childhood.

I was lucky enough to take my bike to the Gulf station as a boy and talk to Lee Roy, he always smiled and made me happy.

I am glad that he touched my life and wish my own kids could have known him.

When I was a starving student at U.T. 30 years ago, my brakes gave out going down Redbud Lane. I'll never forget his kindness when he simply re-attached the power assist, smiled and said "No charge". He was honest and loved people. What a wonderful heritage to leave us all!

My sincere condolences to the family. Lee Roy was a good and dear friend. He will be greatly missed.

Lee Roy was a big part in my life while I was growing up in Tarrytown. He will be missed.

I've known Lee Roy for many years and to know Lee Roy is to know a man who did things his way. A man who treated everyone the same. In all the years I've known Lee Roy I can't remember him ever getting angry. He was always laughing or joking with guys that he worked with sometimes even laughing at the guys he worked with. That was Lee Roy never taking things to seriously. Always with a grain of salt. Hey Lee Roy between you and I know your in a better place "singing down by the river".

As I drove past the station, feeling the weight of the world, I heard Lee Roy holler, waving, "Hello there, my friend". More than once or twice, he made me glad to be alive when I was wondering about if i should be.

The courtesy and care she care showed my widowed mother made a deep impression as well.

I'd love to be more like Lee Roy.
