Lee Lightfoot Obituary

ODESSA Lee Ray Lightfoot, 58, of Odessa, passed away on January 4, 2016. Lee was born on February 28, 1957 to Richard Lee and Kathleen Ann Lightfoot.

He grew up in Odessa and graduated from Odessa High School in 1975.

Lee was married to Judy Kay Lightfoot on January 16, 1985. Judy preceded him in death on January 6, 2012.

After completing military service in the United States Navy, Lee returned to Odessa to help his dad run a new family business. Lee became a precision machinist and ran Lightfoot Machine, Inc. the majority of his life.

Lee was a man of many accomplishments and gifts. Although he had no professional training, he pursued his dream in Nashville and recorded a CD. He played the guitar by ear and had his own band for many years. He had a beautiful voice and was a talented musician.

From building engines and racecars, to racing dragsters, his talents and competitive spirit were enormous. He made many friendships in the racing community. Anyone that met Lee at a racetrack knew that racing was a great love for him. He always said if anything happened to him he wanted his friends to show up in racing shirts.

The family would like to personally say thank you to Terri Hampton and her husband Scooter for their continued loyalty, friendship and commitment to Lee's wellbeing. Terri was a committed caregiver until the very end of Lee's life. There are no words that could ever express our gratitude.

Special thank you to Amy and Roy Carrasco for all the many times they went above and beyond the call of duty as both his employee's and moreover as trusted friends to assist him during periods of health struggles and crisis'.

Lee is survived by his mother Kathleen Ann Lightfoot of Odessa; sister, Susan G. Clark and husband Sid of Odessa; niece, Jennifer Franklin Lord and husband Robert; great nieces, Emerson Lord, Hattie Lord and Elzie Lord and great nephew, Judah Lord all of New Braunfels, Texas; nephew, Dr. James C. Franklin and wife Nicole; great nephew, Daniel Franklin and great niece, Catherine Rose Franklin all of Winterville, North Carolina; nephew, Richard J. Franklin of Odessa; nephew, Justin R. Johnson of Odessa.

Lee was preceded in death by his dad, Richard Lee Lightfoot, and his wife, Judy Kay Lightfoot.

In lieu of flowers, if desired, the family requests donations be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Visitation is scheduled on Thursday, January 7, 2016 from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, January 8, 2016 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Terry Wright officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

I met Lee in about 1980. My band was playing at a club in Odessa. He came out and sat in with us. A few days later, he invited my band to stay at his house! When ever we would play in Odessa, TX I always stayed at his house. We kept in touch over the years. I met Judy when she and Lee first got together, and they would later marry. A few years ago, we touched base again via facebook. Lee knew I couldn't afford a new camera that I wanted, so he sent me one. He was having some major health issues and provided me with a tool to take nice photos so he could enjoy them. He kept saying when he got better, and untethered, he was coming to Alaska to hang out with me. He was a true friend, and a friendship I will always cherish! RIP Lee.

Sorry to hear of the passing of Lee.We met him in 2007. I had a couple of race cars for sale and he came to Ohio to look at them. It was an instant friendship. We talked for hours about racing. He came back and bought both of them. I always emailed him at Christmas and he would always reply back. He told me this past Christmas of his illness and said he wanted to come and visit me and my wife again when he got better. That really touched me of having a friend so far away. I always hoped I would be able to meet up with him again. The drag racing community has lost a great friend and racer.

RIP LEE LIGHTFOOT We will never forget you.

We loved having Lee home and here for Christmas. He was a fantastic conversationalist and could speak on any subject. The house was crazy busy and loud the night he was here and he said " I know you just love this! It's right up your alley"! He had a grand time and was the last to leave.
I am thankful for the Lord's promise of eternal life with him if accept him into our hearts. I know you are safe and whole in the arms of our Lord bubs.

We will miss Uncle Lee & his colorful stories. My favorite memory with him is riding on the back of his motorcycle as a young child. He helped to breed fearlessness in me. I am grateful he is no longer suffering and receiving his eternal reward - true life with Jesus.

I became friends with Lee during dialysis. We both shared our struggles, concerns, & frustrations. We conversed on some nights the entire treatment!
He seemed like a great man that I wished I would have know sooner. I will miss him and I am thankful he no longer suffers. God Bless Lee and your family.
