Lee Puckett Obituary

Lee Puckett

October 18, 1934 - April 22, 2024

Charlotte, North Carolina - Lee Puckett passed away on the morning of April 22, 2024. He was originally from Buffalo, NY, but moved to Key West, FL and spent some of his childhood there before moving back to Buffalo, NY.

He was married for 66 years to his late wife Nancy. Lee met Nancy in 1954, married her in 1956 and had four sons. They kept Lee and Nancy very busy with Scouting, Baseball and Ice Hockey all over NY and Canada. Lee and three other friends founded the West Seneca Youth Hockey League in the town of West Seneca, NY. Lee was the hockey coach for several Hockey Teams. He also helped out coaching the boys Baseball Teams and participated in their Scouting events.

Lee was the son of Atlee Mears Puckett and Margaret Helen Heckel who lived in both Key West, FL and Buffalo, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Nancy, brother Larry and his youngest son Craig Joseph Puckett.

He is survived by his sister Mary Lou Mancuso, brother Dan Puckett, several nieces and nephews. His sons: Keith wife Cathy, Kenneth wife Stephanie and Marc, Also 14 grandchildren: Valerie, Stacey, Alysia, Zackery, Jessica, Taylor, Caroline, Cameron, Cheyenne, Jennifer, Alex, Zoey, Tyler and Lilly. 6 great grandchildren: Cason, Maisy, Clara, Aria, Micah and Abigail.

Lee started working in the mail room at National Gypsum Company and worked his way up to Director of Computer Operation (IT) over a 40 year career before retiring. He also was a Quality Management instructor for National Gypsum staff. After retiring he joined National Gypsum's retirement group called the Trailblazers and took on the role of organizing trips and cruises for the group.

In 1978 the family moved from West Seneca, NY to Charlotte, NC with Lee's employer National Gypsum. The move was difficult, as most of the boys were still in High School. They kept in close contact with their many friends and family in the Western NY area.

Lee was an avid sports fan and loved to follow his teams. He also loved golf and he organized an annual Myrtle Beach Golf Tournament for 30+ years. The group know as PB&F for Puckett Boys and Friends was full of relatives and friends who would get together for a long weekend in the Myrtle Beach area eventually playing almost every course at the beach.

The family loved to travel and did trips up and down the east Coast from Maine to Key West, FL in their truck camper. The also traveled out west to the Grand Canyon, Mount Rushmore, Devils Tower and the Badlands of ND. After the boys were grown Lee and Nancy went on yearly trips to NY to visit family and friends. They also went on yearly trips to Siesta Key, FL, one of their favorite places. They loved the beach and thoroughly enjoyed their condo in North Myrtle Beach, SC.

Lee and Nancy also carried on their late son Craig's hobby of making jewelry out of old and heirloom silverware. They traveled all over the Southeast attending craft shows to show the artistic and creative jewelry, keeping his dream alive.

Lee was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and community. Lee was passionate about his Christian faith and is now resting in the arms of our Lord and Savior.
