Leola Davis Obituary

Leola Davis

Oxnard, CA

"Love One Another

As I Have Loved You"

Mamma, Mom, Granny, Aunt Lee, Mother Davis, Neighbor, Sister and Friend - they all spell Leola Davis.

Leola was born November 1, 1914 to the union of Samantha Brown and Ben Jamison in Minden, Louisiana.

Leola was educated in the local elementary school of Mendon and upon completion attended CH & Iron High School. In 1934 she graduated and married Raymond Davis.

In the early forties, Leola and her six children were reunited with her husband who had come to California in "The Great Migration" seeking a more prosperous economic life. At the age of sixty-eight she drove round trip from Oxnard, CA to Los Angeles Trade Tech College for two years where she received her degree as a professional baker in 1984. She was the biological mother of nine children and adopted mother of many. She also was the mother of the first Afro-American fireman in Ventura County.

At the age of nine, she committed her life to Christ and was baptized at Saint John's Baptist Church in Louisiana. Leola was extremely active in the Lord's vineyard: singing, teaching and sharing her faith and wisdom with all whom she met.

On December 9th, 2015 at the age of 101, in the peace of night, "her house being now all stilled," adorned her spiritual wings and slipped away to join our heavenly Father in ever new joy, ever new bliss.

Those who are left to cherish the memories are her children and families: Hattie Davis, Daisy Davis-Cotton, Bernice Davis-Hawkins, Benny Davis (deceased), Lee Davis, Billy Davis, Paul Davis, Rev. Elizabeth Ann Davis-Jones and Charles Davis; her brother Felix W. Jamison (99) and a galaxy of grandchildren, great grandchildren, a great-great grandchild, nieces, nephews, cousins, a host of adopted children and friends.

The viewing will be held Friday, December 18th from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Del Angel Funeral Home, 401 W. Channel Islands Blvd, Oxnard. Services will be held Saturday, December 19th from 11:00am to 12:30pm at Bethel AME Church, 855 South "F" Street, Oxnard, CA.

It is requested that all flowers arrive at the funeral home no later than Friday, December 18th before 12:00 noon.

To Aunt Leola, and the entire Davis Family, we share in your greif. Aunt Lee was a light to the world, and an example of what the Lord requires of us all, "To do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God." Micah 6:8. To the Davis family, we love you you, from the Cook family.

We celebrate the life of this precious, accessible lady of the Christian faith, Mo. Leola Davis. Her journey has been completed, and she now awaits the adorning of an incorruptible, unperishable crown of life. We thank you, Sis. Davis, for being so accessible, so serviceable, and so mannerable within the Christian and secular community. We are all better for you being a part of our lives. Enjoy that eternal reward. We hope and strive to be in that heavenly realm one day soon! Till sunset calls...

The community has lost a role model that is so missing today. I remember our days in Sunday School at Trinity Baptist Church as you taught us about God and what we must do to meet with the Father. I loved listening to sing in those days of love at Trinty. I will have all the memories of your love for all of USA kids that needed your loving direction. Mother Davis tell my mother that I ow I'll see both of you singing in God's choir. Love you Ronald Willis (swoope)
