I was greatly saddened to hear of Leslie's death. I knew her as a fellow-chorister; we sang together in the choir of St Michael's Church, for oh, it must be almost 30 years. Like many Jews, she made a very good Episcopalian. Like all choristers, she & I enjoying exchanging sotto-voce snarkeries about the music, the tempo, the tenors, etc. Her musical instincts and judgement were flawless, which is to say that they aligned, in general, with my own. She could be quite crusty, and if you went a half-comma flat on that tricky E in alt, she'd throw you a stank-eye that would stop a Patton tank in its tracks. She *always* had something interesting and original to say, and I don't think I ever heard a cliche pass her lips. I will miss her.

Leslie, ypou always had much to say, when we met on the street, and we knew many people in common!!!!! I enjoyed our encounters, each and every one, and I want to extend my sincers condolences to your family. I will remember your feisty remarks and common concerns in our shared world of music and performance. In peace, Betsy Blachly music SFC and GE.

Leslie was a wonderfully supportive music critic colleague, a dedicated music journalist, an enthusiastic proponent of classical music---and all the arts. She loved words, the more obscure the better, and I'll always remember her delight when she came upon the word mahout (having to do with elephants). Leslie had a funny bone, and could be quite witty herself when in the mood. She was one of a kind and I shall miss her presence in our world of music.
