Leta Wilson Obituary

Leta Sue Lawson Wilson

May 30, 1943 - September 12, 2025

Fort Worth, Texas - Leta Sue Lawson Wilson passed away peacefully in Kerrville, TX, and entered into her heavenly home on September 12, 2025. She was born in Dallas, TX, to Carl and Ouida Lawson on May 30, 1943. She had one brother, Thomas Lawson. Her family moved to Carlsbad, NM, in 1948 where she graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1961.

After graduation Leta moved to Lubbock, TX, to attend business college where she met her husband to be, Leland Ray Wilson, who was attending Texas Tech University. They were married in July 1963. They had two children, Lynette and Lane.

Leta loved her family, church friends, horse friends and her animals. Christmas was her favorite time because it was the one day of year that the entire family was always together.

Leta was born with the horse "gene". She had a passion for horses all of her life. Her first horse was a stick horse named Trigger. Her happy place was on the back of a horse. She always said that the best view of life was between the ears of a horse. She loved all breeds but especially Arabians. She competed in Arabian horse shows for over 20 years and enjoyed riding for pleasure, especially in the mountains of Colorado. She made many friends in the horse community. She loved all of her horses. She was most proud of her Arabian horse, KRA Brown Sugar who won the 2003 Arabian National Championship in the Working Cow, Junior Horse class.

Leta enjoyed traveling with four other lady friends that she called, The Village. They traveled together across the country from coast to coast visiting family and sightseeing.

Fort Worth was home for over 50 years before moving to Kerrville in 2021 where she and her husband moved into the senior community of Emerald Cottages and made many good friends.

She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing, especially Christian hymns. She sang in her Carlsbad High School choral group and all the church choirs wherever she attended church. She played the piano against her will, but it was preferable to doing dishes.

Leta loved and enjoyed many years as a docent at the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame in Fort Worth. She loved and respected the staff at the Museum and she had the honor of chaperoning cowgirl inductees during the days of yearly induction ceremonies making sure they were taken care of and made it to all their events. She loved those cowgirls and their stories.

Leta is preceded in death by her parents and brother. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Leland Wilson, her daughter, Lynette (Matthew) Waldon of Kerrville, TX, and her son, Lane Ray Wilson of Lake Tahoe, NV. Grandson Mason Waldon (Alison) of Pflugerville, TX, and Granddaughter Marissa Watson (Colton) of Valley Mills, TX. Also, six great grandchildren, Paisley, Wyatt, Addison, Jenson, Reese and Ridge.

The Wilson Family wants to express appreciation for the kind and professional services provided by Peterson Health Hospice and Avir Health at Riverside Health and Rehabilitation. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame.

Celebration of life will be Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Laurel Land Memorial Park chapel in Fort Worth, TX, at 11:00 am and visitation will be Friday, September 26, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
