Not sure what to say?

A year after his passing, I chanced to google Lew Spratlan, because a fellow Yale songster of mine had passed away 4 days after Lew. As a Yale College senior, Lew conducted the Yale Freshman Chorus of 1961-62 (sometimes called "reject" glee club - those who were not selected for first-string freshman club. Marvelous job by Lew, molding us "vocal "scrubs" into a swell-sounding ensemble. Had no idea about his marvelous later career! - John W. Ehrhardt, Ph.D (BA Yale College, 1965)

A wonderful composer and professor! So honored to have the opportunity to learn from him.

Your legacy and music will live on forever. thank you for all that you've left us. R.I.P.

During the semester I taught at Amherst in 1992, Lew was a generous and supportive colleague. It was clear how deeply he and Melinda were embedded in the musical community there and how great their contributions to it were. His death is a loss for music. I send deepest condolences to Melinda and his family.

The class of 1973 will be holding a concert on June 2, 2023, in celebration of their 50th reunion, including works composed by Scott Wheeler and Paul Salerni, settings of poems by Robert Frost and Emily Dickinson, which are dedicated to the memory of Lewis Spratlan, beloved teacher and mentor.

Melinda - I'm so sorry for your loss. Linda Sharkey (MHC 1992)

Lewis was a fine man, very dedicated to music. I remember the Spratlan family very well so sorry for your loss my condolences and love. Sincerely, nathan day..

I cannot say enough about Lew's enormous support of me at Amherst - my career as a film composer is largely due to his belief in my abilities - he was brilliant, supportive, funny and wise - I am so very sad to hear of his passing.
