Lillian Malizia Obituary

Malizia Lillian "Lil" Marie Malizia, age 62. Born August 26, 1950, St. Louis, MO. Died February 11, 2013 in Columbus, Ohio. Preceded in death by father Richard Vaught, grandfather Sam Jannello, grandmother Virginia Orlando and brother-in-law Jerry Malizia. Survived by mother, Jennie Vaught of Sun City, AZ; husband of 17 years, Joseph Malizia of Columbus, OH; son, Nick Swisher (Joanna) of Hollywood, CA; son, Mark Swisher of Powell, OH; step-daughter, Leslie Malizia Duffy (Jake) of Paradise Valley, AZ; step-son, Biran Malizia of Chicago, IL; and sister-in-law, Gayle Malizia of Tallmadge, OH. Lil's warm smile, and outgoing personality gave her many, many friends. One in particular that will miss her smile is her best friend of several years, Eva Hignite Davis. Lil grew up and was raised by her mother in St. Louis. When in elementary and high school Lil was recognized by the state of Missouri as an exceptional athlete. She excelled notably in gymnastics and ice-skating. Foregoing an opportunity in professional dancing, Lil began a career in modeling. In 1969 Lil represented the United States in a beauty pageant in Madrid, Spain. After briefly working as an airline stewardess in the 1970's Lil started a family, raising her two boys in Worthington, Ohio. Lil loved being Italian. She loved TV, movies, music, fashion and animals. Above all, her two dogs, boxers, Bella and Baron. Lil was a fan of all sports, especially football. With many friends and family in Eastern Ohio and Cleveland Lil became a fan of both the Steelers and the Browns. But her true sports passion was reserved for the Ohio State Buckeye football team. The 2012 season could not have been more enjoyable for her. For the past three plus years Lil was treated for leukemia (AML) by some of the finest doctors in the world. The family would like to give special thanks and gratitude to the many doctors, nurses, support staff, and administrators throughout The Ohio State University Wexner Hospitals, Columbus; and the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX; particularly Dr. Wm. Blum, the nurses and support staff on both the 11th floor and the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit in The James Cancer Center. And to Dr. Richard Champlin, Dr. Marina Konopleva, the nurses and the support staff in the Leukemia/BMT Department at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. And lastly, a grateful thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Kobacker House in Columbus where Lil spent her final days. Lil lived life to the fullest, never looked back, and had no regrets. She truly enjoyed her life here on earth. There will be no public services. A private Catholic Memorial Mass will be held in Lil's honor at the convenience of the family. Lil's final resting place will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Lewis Center, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Lil's name to the Leukemia Society of America or the Capital Area Humane Society. Family has entrusted arrangements to SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd., Upper Arlington, Ohio, 614-457-5481.

She was the most beautiful woman in so many ways. I loved her dearly. She was my friend for over 40 years. I was her maid-of-honor in her marriage to Steve Swisher. There was never anyone like Lil. We laughed and cried together. There really are no words to say. My friend will always be with me.

Dear Family,
I had the honor to meet Lillian when she visited her mom in Sun City West, Az. What a beautiful lady and she always had a beautiful smile on her face. She looked so much like her mom. She was a very brave and courages lady. She fought a good fight and never gave up. She is in a pain free home now flying with the angels. i am sure she is where we all hope to be someday.

I know she will be greatly missed by her mom and family who loved her dearly. May God hold all of you in the palm of His hand and dry your tears and help you get through this painful time in your life.

May God's grace help you get through this very difficult time in your life.

Lil was our dear friend who was was beautiful both inside and out. Her smile lit up a room and her infectious laugh made everyone laugh with her. Lil was always so thoughtful bringing something special for our son Spencer everytime her and Joe visited us.

We had many fun times together especially at our lake house where we would act like we were back in high school – carefree without a worry in the world. Whenever we hear “You, you got what I need but you say he's just a friend” we will laugh and remember the time me, Jim, Lil and Joe sang it at the top of our lungs! This song – regardless of how bad it is will always be our song because it will always bring a smile to our face because we will remember that wonderful day when the cocktails flowed freely and the laughter was continuous.

We will always cherish our memories and will never forget our loving, caring, fun friend with the beautiful smile.

Rest in peace friend – we love you

To the Family.. I will repeat something I've already sent to Mark individually. A true measure of a person's greatness can be observed in the footprints they leave behind when they're gone. Lil's children are beautiful footprints as they carry forward her smile, her zest and love of life, as well as their loyalty and love of their friends and family. Rest at peace with God, Lil. Your work here is done and your children will carry your baton forward.
