Linda Andree Obituary

Linda Lou Andree, 78, died on May 17, 2016, at the William Riley Hospice House in Munster, surrounded by her loving family.
Linda was born on Nov. 1, 1937 in Rensselaer, Indiana, the oldest child of William and Mildred (Overton) Tilton. After graduating Rensselaer High School in 1955, she married her hometown sweetheart and West Point Graduate, Robert Glen Andree on Feb. 22, 1957. They soon departed for the first of Bob's two tours of duty in Germany. For the next 20 years, the family lived in multiple locations including Springfield, Virginia, Athens and Columbus, Georgia, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and Fort Ord, California. For two of those years while Bob was serving in Vietnam, Linda commanded the household and, more or less, kept their three children under control. Linda and Bob eventually settled in Lake County, Indiana after Bob retired from the army.
Linda was a multi-dimensional person with a great sense of humor. She took an interest in everyone she met and would often know a person's life story within a few hours. She was an avid reader, a fabulous baker, and took a lively interest in politics; she delighted in taking and capably defending opposing views. She recited poetry from memory, and her spooky rendition of James Whitcomb Riley's "Little Orphant Annie" delighted and occasionally terrified her grandchildren. She never forgot a birthday or special occasion and always picked out the perfect quirky gift. Linda loved sports, particularly professional football and the Kentucky Derby. She was adored by her grandchildren and enthusiastically joined them on the floor when they played.
Linda is survived by her husband, Bob, by her three children, Bob Jr. (Jamie), Scott, and Anne (Bruce) Jung, grandchildren Casey Andree, Elizabeth Andree, Cori Jung, and Cameron Jung, step grandchild Jake Jung, sisters Carol Haywood (Lon) and Julie Hoffman (Jim), brothers Dave Tilton and John Tilton (Rita), and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her brother, Steve Tilton.
Visitation will be Friday, May 27 from noon until the time of the celebration of life at 2 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Ave., Schererville. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, the ASPCA, or Hospice of the Calumet Area. Linda was a dear cousin and one who spent much of her early life growing up next door where I lived on East Washington St. in Rensselaer. When she was not out running me or beating me up, she was 'mothering" me beyond belief; I'm not sure I would have kept afloat in the turbulent waters of Freshman year at RHS. Rest in peace dear cousin, you've done well. Chuck Tilton
