Woodfin Funeral Chapel - Murfreesboro Obituary

Linda McCool Cox, age 70, passed peacefully to her eternal home on Sunday, December 3 at Alive Hospice in Murfreesboro.

Born in 1947, Linda graduated from Cohn High School. She later received her Bachelor’s degree in Early Education from Western Kentucky University. After years of teaching school she returned to WKU and completed a Master’s degree is School Counseling.

Linda taught school at Walton Ferry Elementary, Wessington Place Elementary and Knox Doss Middle School in Hendersonville, TN. She began counseling at Beech Elementary in Hendersonville, then moved to Murfreesboro, TN where she continued counseling at the following elementary schools: Bellwood, Bradley, Reeves-Rogers, Black Fox, Scales, and The Discovery School. After retirement, she continued teaching children in Sunday School and in Community Bible Study.

Linda was grounded by her deep faith. Through the years she was an active member at First Baptist Church and Bluegrass Baptist Church, both in Hendersonville, and at Belle Aire Baptist Church in Murfreesboro. In addition to teaching Sunday School, she enjoyed teaching GAs and Acteens and participating on a clown ministry team. She also served on countless mission trips around the country and the Caribbean and local mission projects around the city.

Other ways she served her community through the years were coaching basketball, leading Girl Scouts, and working for Weight Watchers. She was also an active member of the Aircraft Owners Association, the Experimental Aircraft Association, the Duck River Beekeepers Club, Cox Aviation Services, and TN Teachers Educators Association.

Linda had her Private Pilot Certificate and enjoyed flying and life by the airstrip in the log home she designed. She loved animals, children, traveling, baking, and hosting events. Her table and her home were always open for anyone who needed a bite to eat, a shoulder to cry on, or a place to lay their head. She saw the best in everyone and found the good in all situations.

She is proceeded in death by her parents, Estle and Pat McCool, and by her brother, Johnny McCool. She is survived by her husband, Col. Billy Cox; son, Bud George (LeAnn); daughter Sherri Greer; stepsons Billy Cox (Pat), Steve D’Andrea (Frances); stepdaughters Teresa Watts (DeWayne), Sharon Mangrum (Kent), Kristi Barnes (Chad), Amy Bradley (Arthur), Gena Payne (Jeremy); 15 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sisters, Diane Gober (Gary), Joyce McKnight, Mary Jane Neese (Dale), Jean Taylor (Earl); brother, Jim McCool (Daphne); and her beloved Great Pyrenees, Buddy.
