Kaliyah entered this world on October 26,2013 in Midlothian, VA. She was a former student of Woodlawn Elementary and Harry E James Elementary In Hopewell, VA She currently attended Dutchtown Elementary School in Hampton, GA.  She enjoyed being a bathroom & hallway monitor at Dutchtown Elementary while assisting her teachers and classmates.  


Kaliyah loved the water and enjoyed swimming, spending time with family and being a disc jockey with both of her grandfather’s Ernest Smith & Roger Prosise.  She enjoyed singing, jumping on the trampoline, dancing, going to Kings Dominion and being on vacation.  Kaliyah loved all her doll babies especially Arielle, Jasmine and Ava. 


Kaliyah‘s favorite place to eat was Texas Roadhouse and her favorite food was her Uncle Reggie’s mac & cheese, chicken, pizza, oatmeal, waffles and bananas.  She just loved food!!!!!  Her favorite movies were Moana and Frozen.  Her favorite television shows were Peppa Pig, Martin and Gabby’s Doll House.  


Kaliyah prided herself on attending family functions.  She enjoyed spa days with her mom and eating ice cream after the fact.


Kaliyah was an amazing back seat driver and enjoyed spending time with all her brothers and sisters.  She loved taking care of her little brother JayCeon and gave him his middle name Jordan.  


Kaliyah had an amazing relationship with her grandmother (Marie) they were like Frick and frack, when you saw one the other was sure to follow.  She stuck to her grandmother like glue and learned to enjoy the finer things in life through her adventures with her grandma Doodie.  Kaliyah loved spending time with her aunts, uncles and cousins.  Kaliyah had an amazing relationship with her God parents Anthony Davis, Sheena Saunders and Adell Wiggins.  


Most of all Kaliyah loved God and she talked about him often.  Kaliyah loved being in church and even though her hearing was hypersensitive she found comfort and peace in the house of the Lord.  


Kaliyah was preceded in death by her aunt Lukesha Perry of Waverly, VA, her great grandmother Ms. Grace Ward, Petersburg, Va., great-grandfather James Mitchell, Sussex County, VA.  


She leaves to cherish her memory her parents Mrs. Tyawnna Sumpter (Aaron) of Stockbridge GA., and Sherard Perry of Waverly, VA. (Maternal) grandparents Marie Mitchell, of Sussex County., Ernest Smith, Petersburg, VA., and Roger Prosise (Lisa), Hopewell, VA.  (Paternal) grandparents Mrs. Ernestine Allen (Elder Lloyd) Waverly, VA. Mr. Tony Jenkins, Dinwiddie, VA.  a maternal great grandmother, Mary Mitchell of Sussex County; sisters and brothers, JayCeon Sumpter, Isiah Robinson, Makinsy Perry, Dominic Perry, Julian Perry, and Justice Perry; A host of aunts, uncles, cousins and devoted friends, including friends K’lani Parker, Clifton Griffin Jr., and God sisters, Shanae and Shanise Chavis.  


A homegoing celebration will be held on Saturday July 1, 2023 at 2 p.m. at the Higher Way Ministries, Petersburg.  Burial will follow at the Mt. Level Baptist Church, Dinwiddie. 


Public viewing will be held on Friday June 30, 2023 from 12 Noon to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

I just meet Kaliyah the last month of school, she started riding my bus 1986. My bus monitor and I just fell in love with her, she was the sweetest and prettiest little girl. I am so sad to know she is no longer on this earth with us but am happy to know she is in Heaven. I am so sorry for your loss and your family is in my prayers.

Beautiful Kaliyah, you will truly be missed! I am so thankful to have been your 2nd grade teacher and make so many fun and loving memories throughout the school year.
