Lois Rosemary Chalona Hawkins

HAWKINS Lois Rosemary Chalona Hawkins, age 85, died peacefully in her home in Metairie on Tuesday, December 20, 2011. The wife of Lloyd Hawkins, Jr. pre-deceased in 1998. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a passionate fan of and donor to the New Orleans Opera Association where she served many years as an honorary member and past president of the New Orleans Opera Association. She was also active in the United Daughters of Confederancy and the Milne Home School for Girls. She graduated with a BA from Newcomb College in 1946. She was an accomplished pianist and gracious hostess who played an active and energetic social role. She is survived by her sister Bertha C. Fontaine, New Orleans, LA, as well as by her five children, Deborah Hawkins, Boston, MA; Jennifer Hawkins Randle, Houston, TX; Anne Keith, Woodinville, WA; Lloyd Hawkins III, Metairie, LA; Laura Mansur Guerra, Houston, TX; as well as by her eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at 1:00 PM. Friends may visit after 11:00 AM. Interment in Metairie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Orleans Opera Association.
