Retired Webster police officer, Captain Lori Mitchell, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at the age of 85. She was born in San Francisco, California on November 5, 1936 to Alvin and Lorraine Wolf and was the oldest of six siblings. Lori initially worked for the Webster police department as a dispatcher starting in 1974. She went on to become a commissioned police officer and was the first female officer to work in the City of Webster, Texas. Lori was promoted numerous times and was acting Chief of Police for a brief period. On January 19, 1981, Sargeant Lori Mitchell was proclaimed "Officer of the Year" by the City of Webster and the Houston 100 Club. Over the years, Officer Mitchell participated in workshops and presentations with the Webster citizens. She was especially proud when she had the position of Law Enforcement Director for Webster's Senior Citizen Group. Officer Mitchell was well known for her position at the school crosswalk and loved talking with the students and citizens. In October 1991, Webster Police Chief Ray Sonora, Lieutenant Jerry Barker and Lieutenant Lori Mitchell represented the City of Webster for the dedication of the National Law Enforcement Memorial for slain officers in Washington D.C.. The three Webster officers walked the procession down Pennsylvania Ave with over 10,000 fellow US police officers. They attended the dedication dinner and the Webster Police Department was noted to be a major contributor which is included on the memorial. Captain Lori Mitchell loved her years at the Webster Police Department and the City of Webster. She was a police officer in Webster for 23 years before retiring.
Lori Michell was preceded in death by her son Paul Mitchell and great-granddaughter Chasity Hillger. Survivors include her sister, Linda Astill of Roseville, California, her daughters, Kipp Cloud of Friendswood, Texas, Jill McCammon Lumpkin (Mike) of Woodinville, Washington, Wendy Perez (John) of Webster, Texas, daughter-in-law, Joanna Mitchell of Oceanside, California, sons, Gordon Johnson (Angela) of Conroe, Texas. and Ty Mitchell of Dallas, Texas. Her family also includes her 9 grandchildren, 7 great-children and numerous other relatives and friends.
The family would also like to extend their deepest appreciation for Monica, her granddaughter, for providing excellent care for her grandmother over the past two years. Also, an important mention is our angel and special close friend, Jeannie Tinkle. We are forever grateful for her caring nephrology expertise and navigation.
Lori was a loving mother, sister, and grandmother and caring neighbor and friend. She will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by those who knew and loved her. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will treasure her memory.
