Loren E. Beach

Loren E. Beach, 88, of Alexandria, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010, at his home. He was born Nov. 22, 1922, in rural Hancock County, Ohio. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Norene DelBene Beach, children, John E. Beach (Jane Lindsay), of Salem, Jennifer Beach Foster (Watt R. Jr.), of Brookneal, Paula J. Beach, of Alexandria, and Charles L. Beach, of Charlottesville. He was the loving grandfather of Katherine Loren Foster, of Charleston, S.C., Mary Grey Foster, of Charlotte, N.C., and Douglass Beach, of Charlottesville. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary.

Mr. Beach was a veteran of World War II, fought with General Patton's Third Army, 11th Armored Division, and was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medals, as well as the Combat Infantry Badge, of which he was most proud. During his tenure in the Army, he attended the University of Idaho and the University of Oregon. After the war, he graduated from Ohio Northern University's School of Law in Ada, Ohio, under the GI bill, receiving his Juris Doctor in 1954. In 1954, he joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a special agent assigned to Washington, where he spent his career both in the field and later as an instruc-tor at the FBI Academy in Quantico. After retirement, he worked as an inves-tigator on Capitol Hill for many years.

Mr. Beach was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and the Society of Former Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and was active in his community.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, at Ft. Myer Chapel, with burial and military honors immediately following at Arlington National Cemetery.
