Lorraine BURNETTE Obituary
A native of Mathews County, Va., she had been a resident of Newport News for 54 years. She had been a homemaker who was at the heart of a family she cherished. As a longtime member of Morrison United Methodist Church, she had participated in many church activities and cultivated lifelong friendships.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Virginia Gayle; as well as her sisters, Virginia Hudson, Clara Grinnell and Kathryn Blight; and her brothers, William, Herbert and Charles Gayle.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, James H. Burnette; daughters, Brenda Tagge and Roxanne Burnette; a niece who was like a daughter, Debbi Wiggin; her grandchildren, Bryan M. Tagge and his wife, Dee, P. Brandon Hamilton, Meredith H. Archer and her husband, Matt, and Katie Wiggin; two great-grandsons, Michael and Hayden, brought light and life to her late years. A host of nieces, nephews, and cousins were a constant source of joy for her.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the loving care she received from the staff of The Newport.
The family will receive visitors from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening at Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home chapel by the Rev. D Parrish with the burial following in Peninsula Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or American Diabetes Association.
