Louise Berdon Obituary

BERDON Louise (Kitty) Bateman Berdon, was born on November 21, 1914 in Carlock, Illinois and was raised in the neighboring area. At 15, after the death of her parents, she moved to Chicago to live with as older sister who taught her the millinery business. After her marriage to Arthur Regottaz of New Orleans, they moved to Manhattan, New York with his company where she studied fine arts at the Arts Students League. She also studied at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, the John McCrady Art School and in later years Tulane University and the New Orleans Academy of Fine Art. She and her husband resided in Sumatra for a few years and her travels took her to Europe, the Middle East, South America, California and Louisiana. Upon returning to New Orleans she rejoined the millinery business. After the death of Arthur, she remained a friend of the family and in later years she married Adam Harper, a retired attorney. Upon his death in 1965, she went into the real estate business for several years until she met and married S. Conrad Berdon. They continued to reside in the Garden District until his death in 1991. She is survived by a stepson, Conrad Berdon, his wife Judy, their two daughters of Denver, Colorado; her nephew, John Bateman, his wife Toni of Princeville, Illinois, several nieces including Edwina Potter of El Macero, California and Karla Smith of Boca Raton, Florida. Her encouragement of painting has motivated many of us through the years. Her elegance and style will be missed indeed. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Funeral Service at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, La. on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at 3:30 PM. Interment at Lake Lawn Park. A reception will be held at the funeral home after the service. Please visit and sign the family guestbook at www.lakelawnmetairie.com.
