Lynda MENN Obituary

MENN, Lynda Elmore
Lynda Elmore Burford Menn was born on May 20, 1941, and was set free by her Savior, Jesus Christ on September 25, 2016. Lynda was born in Lubbock, Texas, to Leroy and Dortha Elmore. She graduated from Monterey High School in Lubbock and attended Texas Tech University, where she was an active member and officer of Delta Delta Delta national sorority. While attending Texas Tech University, she was crowned South Plains Maid of Cotton in Lubbock and modeled in many fashion shows. Lynda married John Overton Burford of Fort Worth, Texas in 1962 and settled in Austin, Texas with him and their 3 children.

Lynda's greatest treasure was her children and grandchildren. They were the joy of her life.

She loved her Lord, her family, and everyone she met, holding them all dear to her heart. She had an incredible love, an incredible trust, an incredible faith. Lynda will be remembered for her kind and gentle spirit and her beautiful smile. She could light up the room when she walked in and people were drawn to her. Lynda was always up for an adventure of any kind, with her Chanel sunglasses and lipstick in hand.

Lynda was a founding member of the first Junior League Christmas Affair of Austin. She was named Best Dressed Mom of Austin in 1987, resulting in most treasured portraits from photographer, Gray Hawn.

Lynda was blessed with many talents. Her creativity could be found in her cooking, decorating, and painting. She was quite an artist, studying under Glenna Goodacre. She painted one of her most beautiful creations on the wall of her first granddaughter's bedroom. She also loved traveling the world, dancing in the car, the bubbliest champagne, Neiman Marcus Fortnights, watching movies, great food, and any song by her favorite, Diana Ross.

She was predeceased by her father Leroy Elmore. She is survived by her mother Dortha Merriman Elmore, husband Arnold Menn, daughter Lisa Burford Bradley, daughter Kristi and son-in-law Mark Vaught, all of Austin, Texas, son Bret and daughter-in-law Electra Burford, of Fort Worth, Texas; grandchildren Houston Bradley, Valerie Vaught, Jack Bradley Vaught, Cole Burford, Gage Burford, and Electra Burford.

We are deeply thankful to the many caregivers who cared for her. Thank you for loving our mom and giving her great care over the last 5 years.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice Austin or Chicon Pregnancy Resource Center, in her memory.

My deepest sympathy to my beloved childhood friends, Lisa, Kristi, Bret, and of course dear Doty! I will always remember Lynda as one of the most beautiful women I knew while growing up next door to the Burford's! I also remember she smelled like a garden of flowers and it was heavenly! I send you all my love and prayers, but I know how hard it is to lose those you love as we lost our precious mother 2 years ago and I still miss her every day!

Dear Menn Family,

I smile when I read the obituary about the beautiful, kind, "light up a room" lady Lynda was as an adult. She was the same as a classmate and kind to all. She was unique in 1956 and I know she was unique in 2016.
We were all blessed to have known her.
