Manfred Glaubke Obituary

Manfred Adolph Glaubke, age 81, passed away Sunday, September 25 peacefully at his home in Norfolk, Va.

Born in Bad Zwischenahn in the Ammerlands of Lower Saxony, Germany, he was the youngest son to Willy K. and Meta A. Glaubke. He was the widow of Florence A. Glaubke, who passed away in February of 2022. His legacy is carried on by his two sons Michael A. and Mark A. Glaubke (Stephanie), grandchildren Ryan, Madison, Lauren, and Cameron, great granddaughter Brielyn, and little companion, Toby. Freddy grew up in a time of war. His family risked their lives fleeing Germany for a better life, leaving behind a war-torn homeland he had trouble sharing about later in life. His family had the fortune of finding a sponsor in Norfolk, Peter Meredith Sr., who's generosity granted them entry into the United States and job opportunities with Meredith Construction Inc. that helped foster their new life in a new country. He was a handsome and athletic young man, active in soccer and wrestling at Granby High School. There, he met his beloved wife of 60 years, "Flossie". He was a member of the Lost Class of 1959 and never completed high school. Instead, he seized his opportunities at Meredith Construction Inc. and went to work to build an incredible career. By age 25, he was a superintendent tasked with building multimillion-dollar projects all over Hampton Roads, including churches, restaurants, and government facilities at NOB, NAS, Dam Neck, Oceana, Yorktown Weapons Station, the Coast Guard Training Center, and Naval Amphibious Base. Anyone who worked with him would tell you he was one of the best superintendents to ever run a jobsite. He provided a strict upbringing for his two sons, and helped foster fishing and hunting traditions that Michael, Mark, and their families enjoy to this day. He loved his hunting buddies dearly, as they did him: Roy, Paul, Eddie, Jimmie, Melvin, and Rudolf. He missed his wife very much. Finally at peace and free from his health issues, they are together again forever. Mom & Dad: we love a miss you very much.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 10:00a.m. at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.
