Marcia Dobbin
Marcia Scott Cree Naugle Dobbin, of Brunswick, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2025, at the age of 81. She was born on Nov. 14, 1943, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where she grew up in the loving care of mother, Janet, and stepfather, Bill Naugle.
She graduated from Auburn University with a bachelor's degree in education in 1965. She received a master's degree in education from Florida State University.
She worked as a teacher of English and drama, an interior designer and a retail sales associate.
She was actively involved in a variety of community theatres, various church choirs and volunteered with organizations such as Planned Parenthood and CASA.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ed Dobbin, sister Lucinda Naugle, and brother John Naugle.
She is survived by her children, Kelly (Jay) Hunter and Tad (Claudine) Dobbin; brother, James Naugle; surrogate grandchildren, Mac and Mary Banks Shelander; and a multitude of friends all over the world.
Marcia was one-in-a-million, bringing joy and laughter to others through her many talents. Whether she was acting, singing, painting or simply being her vibrant self, she was a splash of color in an often dreary world. She will be remembered by students, castmates, fellow choir members and friends from all over.
She loved to travel, going on countless cruises, including her final trip: a world cruise that was cut short by the return of her cancer. She crossed the Equator twice, sailed down the Amazon, traversed the Panama Canal and crossed the International Date Line. She often painted the things she saw on her travels, leaving behind a prolific body of work in acrylic, watercolor and pastels. Toward the end of her life, she especially enjoyed painting Roseate Spoonbills. She loved her "spoonies." Some of her fondest memories were of performing, which she did on stages and in churches from the mountains of North Carolina to a chapel in Italy, and so many places in between. Her soaring soprano and sparkling smile are gone from this world, but will live on in the memories of those she encountered.
The family would like to thank Marla Nalley of Heartland Hospice and Martha Smith of Visiting Angels for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in her final days.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, June 6 at St. Simons Presbyterian Church, with a reception to follow in the fellowship hall. Attendees are asked to wear their brightest attire and most coordinated accessories in honor of Marcia's love of color and fashion.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her honor to Golden Isles Youth Orchestra or Coastal Symphony of Georgia.
