Margaret Heard Obituary

Margaret Lee Heard, 81, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2009. She was born on September 16, 1927 in Norman, Oklahoma.

Margaret graduated from Plainview High School at 16 years of age. She attended Wayland Baptist College and Texas Tech, and graduated from Grand Canyon University with a B.A. in History. She was an adjunct history professor at GCU in the early 1970's. She was a teacher at many Yuma Christian Schools, including Mt. Zion, Calvary Baptist, and American Heritage.

Margaret served faithfully at Morningside Southern Baptist Church. She was the epitome of Southern hospitality. She moved to Yuma from Plainview, Texas in 1962 with her husband, Jim Heard and son, Jim Jr. They farmed in Wellton.

Margaret is survived by her son, James L. Heard Jr.; grandsons, James L. Heard III of Mesa, Arizona, and Dustin Nabhan of Whittier, California; granddaughters, Maggie Heard Kipp of Yuma, and Laura Reichhardt of Honolulu, Hawaii; great-granddaughter, Molly Kipp; great-grandson, James T. Heard of Mesa;
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, James Heard.

A memorial service will be held at Morningside Southern Baptist Church on August 4, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. Her final resting place will be in Plainview, Texas.
Memorial donations may be made in her name to Southwestern Christian School.
