Margaret Jane Lax went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 8th, 2023. She spent her final days surrounded by her family and friends.
She was born to Hudson Hatcher Watkins and Helen Ruth (Woodhouse) Watkins on January 26th, 1949, in El Paso, Texas.
As the daughter of a U.S. Airman, she spent her childhood traveling to Anchorage, Alaska; Tacoma, Washington; Germany and Duluth, Minnesota. She graduated from Central High School in 1967. She continued her education at a vocation school later earning her first job at UMD in the admissions office. She made the ultimate act of selflessness by leaving that job and spending the next 22 years raising her two children. Once they both graduated, she spent the next 25 years as the Office Receptionist at Duluth First Presbyterian Church until retirement.
Margaret spent her life serving the Lord and was involved in many different groups at her church. She found joy in helping others and always found time for anyone who needed her. She took pride in raising her children and was extremely proud of her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Steven; parents; brother Harold Alfred Watkins and sister Marilyn Louise (Watkins)Olson.
She will be greatly missed by her son Jonathan; daughter Christine (Russell) Salgy; sister-in-law Bonnie (Roger) Rose; brother-in-law Robert Lax; granddaughters Caitlyn, Callie, Cara and Cecilia Salgy; nieces Jaclyn Schultz and Kaylee Rose; and nephew Eric Lax.
Many thanks to the St Luke’s staff and Hospice unit for their care and compassion that Margaret received during her short stay.
A service will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, December 19th at Park Hill Cemetery, 2500 Vermillion Rd in Duluth, MN.
