MARIAN GOODFELLOW Obituary

MARIAN PENNINGTON GOODFELLOW Marian Pennington Goodfellow, 92, of Raytown, MO, passed away September 6, 2014. She was born December 4, 1921 in Kansas City, MO, the seventh daughter of William and Sallie (Layton) Pennington. She was preceded in death by her parents and her six sisters Mildred, Ethel, Esther, Ruth, Elizabeth and Lois. She graduated from Paseo High School in 1938 and attended KC Junior College for one term. On May 17, 1940 she married Joe Goodfellow Jr. from Adrian, MO. She worked as cost accountant at Broad & Purety and as pay master of Wilcox Electric and Borden Dairy. In 1952 Joe and Marian moved to Raytown, MO, where they raised their five children. When all five were in school Marian returned to work for JC Penney Co. where she served 23 years as office and sales support manager. She later returned to the working world as tax examiner for the IRS for five years. Marian and her family are members of First Baptist Church of Raytown which they have attended since 1952. Her faith and love of our Lord Jesus Christ, were reflected in her daily life. Her family was the source of great joy and always came first. Her friends were important and cherished. Marian loved to travel due to Joe's 40 years employment with TWA. They were able to travel extensively as were their children. Also of great importance was the time spent at their second home on Table Rock Lake for 23 years. Joe, her husband of 60 years, preceded her in death on June 14, 2000. She is survived by her three sons Joe Mike (Robbi) of Kansas City, MO, Patrick (Stephanie) of Independence, MO, and James (Linda) of Gunnison, CO; two daughters Nancy Hardy (James) of Raytown, MO and Kelly Dooley (Randy) of Raytown, MO, and her chosen daughter Shay Idel; six grandchildren Kelly Powell (Jason), Stacey Goodfellow, Krista Forbes, Tara McCann (James), Brett Goodfellow (Lacy), and Alyssa Dooley; and four great-grandchildren Mason, Kylie, Jacob and Katelin. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 12, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd. Burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. It was such a blessing to grow up in the time and the neighborhood we all enjoyed so much. We all have very fond memories of your mom.
She was such a great lady.

One of the greatest blessings has been to have Marian as my neighbor for the past 28 years. Marian was an inspiration; downhill skiing till she was 70, and active in every way ! We would have some wonderful conversations and have all the world's problems figured out. SMILE! Always full of love, energy and kindness, Marian will be missed terribly! I pray God's comfort on all her amazing family.

Thinking of you all, Mike, Pat, Nancy, Jim and Kelly. We grew up in an awesome neighborhood. Your mom was a terrific lady. She was so funny! I loved her laugh. God bless her! No more pain. You all take care and hold on to the memories.

Aunt Marian is the last of "The Aunts) She was a welcoming figure in my life from my college years and forward. I will miss visiting her over Thanksgiving, sitting at the table for hours, drinking tea and telling stories. She had a sharp wit and we laughed and laughed. I'll miss our ventures out to blues clubs and watching her dance the night away, at 90! Until we meet again!!

Marian was my Great Aunt. I was so fortunate to have been able to get to know her and spend some time with her over the last few years. She was an inspiration, and an example of a life well lived. I know she will be deeply missed by all those whose lives she touched - especially her beloved family.
