Marilyn Carter passed away quietly at Washington Oakes on March 9, 2024. Marilyn was born February 12, 1925 in Everett, WA . She was married for 61 years to LeRoy J Carter, who she lost in 2008. She leaves her son Jim Carter, daughter Carol Starcher ( Ken), her grand children Justin Carter ( Brianne) Evan Carter( Jenascia) Lauren Carter and 4 great grand children, Leia, Beckett, Livi and KJ.
Marilyn grew up in Everett where she spent much of her teenage years at Skateland; roller skating with the Skateland Cadets drill team. She participated in numerous skating shows, parades, and events. She went on to become a solo skater attending State and National competitions and winning numerous medals and awards.
Marilyn met Lt J G LeRoy Carter on a blind date right after WWII; they were married June 1, 1946. Together they opened Carters Drug Store on Broadway, working long hours; LeRoy as the pharmacist behind the counter and Marilyn out front. Later on they owned Tozer's Pharmacy, and the Owl Drug Store. Marilyn decorated all the stores for each holiday season, but Easter became the one she was famous for. Her hand decorated chocolate eggs, of all sizes, drew customers from all over as she would personalize them with the families names; they could then be hidden for the Easter Egg Hunt or used at the table for place settings. You might have even seen the Easter Bunny at the store helping out. After she and LeRoy retired, she continued to write her childrens and grandchildrens name on eggs for many years and had them hunt for them on Easter.
Marilyn was a Cub Scout Den Mother, a Camp Fire Girls leader; involved in Lady Lions, and the Womens Organization of National Retail Druggists, holding numerous offices. Marilyn and LeRoy traveled to many conventions and events throughout the US, Canada and Mexico. Once they retired, they continued their travels to Australia, Japan, China, South America and numerous European Countries.
After moving into Washington Oakes Retirement Home, she began to decorate the 3rd floor. All holidays/ seasons were celebrated with anything from floral decorations, holiday figures, door decorations, colorful accessories, lighted trees, wall art with festive colors and ribbons.
A Memorial Service will be held for Marilyn on Friday March 15, 2024 at 10 :30 am at Evergreen Funeral Mausoleum 4504 Broadway in Everett. Her Celebration of Life Reception will be that afternoon from 2 -4 pm at Washington Oakes, 1717 Rockefeller in the 3rd floor Piano Lounge. All are welcome. The family wishes to acknowledge Bristol Hospice of Everett for the care and compassion in these past few weeks.

A beautiful part of Everett and it's history has left us. I worked for Marylin and Leroy for years. People like them are extremely rare. God bless all the family

Our best to the family! Marilyn was such a nice lady. I lived on McDougal on the same block as the Drug Store on Broadway and would go around the neighborhood as a young boy and collect bottles to cash in at Safeway and then head to Carter Drug Store to buy my penny candy. Leroy and Marilyn were both so nice to me. The time goes on and me and my wife run into Marilyn garage saling. We became good friends and Linda and Marilyn were "garage sale" buddies. Marilyn will be missed and Linda will miss her visits with Marilyn. Regards, Don & Linda Holdridge

I remember Mrs. Carter as a wonderful lady and a great camp fire leader. Even years later she remembered me, who I married and the names of my children. She had a great memory for people.

To Jim and Carol and all yout families, please accept my condolences on the passing of your sweet Mother. I have very pleasant memories of being in your home when we were growing up, and how busy your Mom (and Dad) were. But your Mom always found time to brighten your days as well as so many in the community. It's tough when our parents pass, but we have many great memories of them. Bless you.

My parents owned the Town House Restaurant for 20 years, just down the block from Carter's Drugstore. As a teen I spent many hours at the store, admiring the décor and who could forget those gorgeous Easter eggs! Such a wonderful couple. I'm sorry for your loss.

Mrs. Carter! My family lived down on View Drive below you! My grandparents right above you on Rucker! We would cherish driving by your home during the holidays to see all the fun displays you would put on your front lawn! I was lucky enough to purchase some of your decorations at your estate sale! You will be missed! But you will always be remembered! Every time I see one of your treasures I think of you!!
Thank you for the joy you brought to my family and all of the neighbors!
Condolences to all of your family!
