Marilyn Ferrara Obituary

Marilyn H. Ferrara, 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday May 6, 2018 at home surrounded by family. She was a native of New Orleans. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Mary Lynn Haney; son, Charles J. Ferrara; brothers, Jacob Haney, Jr. and Gerald Haney; sisters, Madeline Connell, Thelma Irma Simoneaux, and Helen Bonnett. She is survived by her two sons, Randal J. Ferrara (Lisa) and Frank Ferrara, Jr. (Dede); her three daughters, Carolyn Ferrara, Mary Brenner, and Jeanne Eddington (Robert). Also survived by 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Marilyn was a graduate of Sophie B. Wright High School. She co-founded and operated Roofing Products and Building Supply Co. for over 35 years. She demonstrated her superior business acumen throughout her career. That was specifically demonstrated following Hurricane Betsy when she promised her loyal customers that she would not raise prices in the midst of heavy demand. Marilyn was a member of several social organizations including Hebians Ball, Bissonet Maned Downs Country Club, Pelican Squares, Riverlands Golf and Country Club and Beau Chene Golf and Country Club. She loved to travel internationally and did so for many years after retirement. Marilyn was a very intelligent and an extremely mentally strong and ambitious lady with an outstanding work ethic and high moral character. Anyone who met her was better because of it. She was a beloved and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, sister-in-law and aunt. She will be greatly missed by those who loved her dearly. Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at 1 pm in the Chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans. Interment will follow at Metairie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. I was not privileged to have known Mrs. Ferrara, but I know her son, Randy who is clearly a reflection of her kindness as exhibited through his devotion to her care and to others. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and those who knew her.
