Marilyn Otten Obituary

PEORIA - Marilyn D. Otten, age 77, of Peoria passed away Saturday, April 7, 2012, at 7:50 p.m. at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.

She was born Dec. 4, 1934, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Ray and Myrtle Faye (Terrell) Anderson. She married Donald "Hootie" Otten April 23, 1955, in Bellevue. Hootie and Marilyn had a great and happy life full of family and friends. They celebrated 50 years together before he passed away Oct. 12, 2005, in Peoria.

She was also preceded in death by one grandson, Teddy Barnes, and one sister, Mary Louise Pullen.

Survivors include one daughter, Denise (Kevin) Barnes of St. Paul, Minn.; two sons, Jeffrey (Kathy) Otten of Bartonville and Kevin Otten of Bellevue; five grandchildren, Lindsey (Jon) Simmons, Brandon Otten, Lauren Otten, Cory Otten and Wesley Barnes; one great-grandson, Wyatt Simmons; three sisters, Beverly (Walter) White of West Peoria, Judie (James) King of Peoria and Debbie Miller of California; and one brother, Terry Anderson of Los Angeles, Calif.

Marilyn loved her family and was never happier than when they were sitting around the kitchen table chatting, having a meal and playing games. She always appreciated the special attention and care that her sisters and brother showed her.

Marilyn worked as an operator and later a supervisor for Illinois Bell-AT&T for 31 years, retiring in 1985.

She was a member of the West Peoria Elks Club, Christ Lutheran Church, lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers and the Illinois Bell Birthday Club.

She was a loyal friend to "the kids at work" and enjoyed the times on the job and especially after hours.

Funeral services will be Saturday, April 14, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Peoria. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel. Additional visitation will be Saturday one half hour prior to the services at church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Galesburg.

Memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church.

Ed and I are sorrry for your loss. We lived near you for years when you lived on Maxwell Road so we got to know the family well. Marilyn and I worked together at the telephone company. I know you, her family, gave her a lot of tender loving assisted living care when she needed it.
