Marion Butcher Obituary

Marion Riviere Butcher passed away at home in New Orleans on Sunday, February 12, 2023 after a prolonged illness. She was born in New Orleans on October 6, 1948 to the late Dorothy Rand Riviere and the late George Boucher Riviere. She was the beloved wife of 51 years to Robert Brent Butcher, M.D.; mother to three daughters, Courtney Montgomery (Richard), Rand Rutledge (Michael), Marion Scott Pilcher (Paul); sister to George Riviere, Jr. (Robin) and Rand Mason (Raymond); grandmother to Elizabeth Montgomery, Walker Montgomery, Alexandra Rutledge, Celia Rutledge, Marion Pilcher and Paul Pilcher, Jr. She is also survived by multiple nieces and nephews. She attended Louise S. McGehee School and Garden District Academy and attended Louisiana State University as a member of Phi Beta Phi sorority. She devoted her life to raising her family which she adored. Friends both old and new were an important part of her day. She treasured time spent at St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church. At various times in her life, she taught Sunday school and was active in Presbyterian Women and the Start the Adventure in Reading (STAIR) program. She served on committees with the Junior League and the Orleans Club, where she served on the board. She loved playing bridge. The highlight of her week was her Wednesday lunch and bridge group at the NOCC. A private graveside service for the family will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at the columbarium at St. Charles Presbyterian Church. This will be followed by a "colorful" celebration of life reception from 2:30 pm - 5:00 pm at the New Orleans Country Club for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to a charity of your choice or the Start the Adventure in Reading (STAIR) program housed at St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church, 1545 State St., New Orleans, LA 70118. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.LeitzEaganFuneralHome.com for the family.
