Marjorie Thomas Obituary

Thomas, Marjorie (Marty) Jean
Marjorie (Marty) Jean Thomas of Phoenix, Arizona passed to the loving arms of our Lord on October 16, 2012 at the age of 88, just two days shy of her 89th birthday. Born October 18, 1923; the youngest of five children to James Thomas and Clara Jane Pinnick. Her birth place was Petersburg, Indiana and she spent her first 13 years growing up, attending grade school and singing in the Presbyterian Church choir in Howard Lake, Minnesota. She moved with her family to Phoenix, Arizona in 1936 arriving on her 13th birthday. She was a graduate of Phoenix Union High School, 1942. Marty married her High School sweetheart, Marion Dale Thomas, on May 14, 1944. After the passing of Dale in 1978 she married Henry Dean Prather in 1985. She was left again a widow with the passing of Dean in 2009. During WWII Marty worked at the train depot; before and after WWII she was a cashier for Learners Clothing Shops; eventually in the early 1950's embarking on a very long career with the First National Bank of Arizona (and subsequent entities) where she became a Prestige Bank Officer as supervisor of central loan credit files and customer "banker" representative, retiring in 1986. Proudly, Marty served as Treasurer of Laurel Chapter of Order of Eastern Star, Phoenix for over 25 years and continuing her membership with Stars of Paradise Chapter #56, OES. She lovingly supported Dale as he progressed through his Masonic endeavors including the Arizona Grand Lodge F&AM; Dean as he participated in both Masonic and OES organization; and especially the lives of her children and grandchildren. We could always count on her to be there for us no matter what. She was not overly athletic but did enjoy bowling and was also seen riding a skateboard down a road on the side of North Mountain Park in the early 60's. Survived by son, Gary; daughter, Beth (Keith); grandchildren, Nathan (Charissa), Tammara (Ian) and great-granddaughter Aileana; sister, Helen. Private graveside services with OES will be held on Monday, October 22, 2012 at 10AM at Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery. No flowers please, rather donations are suggested to Seasons Hospice for their wonderful tender care of Marty. www.ALMoore-Grimshaw.com

Marty was always very special to me. She gave me my first job out of High School. She and Dale were with my parents when they married. Lots of fond memories. I will hold you all in my prayers. Daughter of John & Marilyn Sharp.

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.
I am the gentle showers of rain,
I am the fields of ripening grain.
I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight,
I am the starshine of the night.
I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave bereft
I am not there. I have not left.
