Not sure what to say?

I was diagnosed with Leukemia in Albany, NY. The local oncology group gave me an appointment in two weeks. I called Dr. Heaney´s office for an appointment. After looking at my medical records (the same day) he personally called me and asked me to come in the very next day. I think that sums up Dr. Heaney´s empathy, compassion and his selfless care for his patients. I cried upon hearing the sad news. He was more than just a Dr to me. He saved my life.

I am truly saddened by the loss of such a wonderful, kindhearted soul. Dr. Heaney had an uncanny way of making me feel calm even when my blood counts weren´t that great, aside from my family he was one of the most important people in my life. I thank you for helping me. Rest peacefully kind soul.

Single Memorial Tree

I have been a patient of Dr. Heaney´s for 15+ years. He was currently overseeing my latest treatment for HCL even though I now live in Hong Kong. He always went above and beyond and made everyone feel like they were his only patient. My heart breaks for his family, fellow patients and colleagues. The world lost a wonderful Doctor and all around good human. Rest In Peace Doc.

Dr Heaney took care of my father for several years with office visits every 2 or 3 weeks. Dad adored him! Dr. Heaney was smart, hopeful and compassionate. His care , competence, concern, humor and humanity were exceptional and we will miss him. We wish his family strength and want them to know how beautifully integral Dr Heaney was in our lives. His kindness enriched our days.

I am a patient of Dr. Heaney for many years I saw him for a rare disease Langerhans Histiocytosis. He took me under his wing and treated me like family and had me feeling better in no time.Dr. Heaney was the kindest most patient Dr. I have ever met. His knowledge was unbelievable of Langerhans and many other medical issues. I will miss him dearly. My condolences to his family and everyone who was lucky to have known him. RIP .. Gone to soon.

Dr. Heaney was my brothers oncologist at Sloan Kettering. My brother, Dr. Jay Steinberg, adored Dr. Heaney. He took such good care of him. When my brother passed, Dr. Heaney and some of his stuff attended Jays funeral. Not too many doctors take the time to do that. He was a very special man...my condolences to the entire family. He will be missed my many!!

I just learned of Dr. Heaney´s tragic passing. He was my hematologist for many years and I valued his expert opinion, compassion and kindness. He was one in a million and I will never forget how much he cared for me as a patient. I want to express my sincere condolences to his family, friends and supporting staff at Columbia Presbyterian. May his memory be a blessing.
