Marla Jo Settle

1957 - 2023

Marla Jo (Baerenwald) Settle, 66, of Rome, Georgia passed away June 2, 2023. Marla was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother.

Marla was born March 31, 1957, to Marlen Ernest Baerenwald (deceased) and Joanne Marie (Bastman) Baerenwald (deceased) in Worthington, Minnesota.

Marla graduated as Valedictorian of her class from Berry College with her Bachelor of Science in Education with an Early Education Major. During her time at Berry College, she was recipient of the Bernard Storey Scholarship and was inducted into Kappa Delta Pi and Alpha Chi Honor Society. After graduation she began teaching at Garden Lakes Elementary School, and during her almost 30-year career she continued her own education at Jacksonville State University, earning her Master of Science with a major in Education Administration.

Marla is survived by her children Edward Clayton Settle V, Jeffrey Alan Settle, and Jordan Andrew Settle; daughters-in-law Jennifer (Mankin) Settle and Jessica (Dunn) Settle; granddaughters Willow, Jaina, Jamie, and Ellie; step-grandson Peyton; and sisters Lori (Baerenwald) Camp and Becky (Baerenwald) Mattocks.

A celebration of Marla's life will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 3000 Garden Lakes Blvd., Rome, GA 30165, officiated by Pastor James Jennings. Family visitation will be held at the church before the service, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marla's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
