Martha Breckenridge Obituary

A native and resident of Baton Rouge, she passed away on Friday, June 8, 2018. She was 61 and a treasured wife, mother, sister, aunt and Oma. She is survived by her husband, Michael Breckenridge; daughter, Kellen Van Horn and husband Herbert "Mitch"; daughter, Mary Katherine Breckenridge and fiancée Dani Frick; and son, John Milton "Jack" Breckenridge and wife Sarah. She was Oma to three beloved grandchildren, Flynn, Eli and Shirley Van Horn. She is also survived by two sisters, Susan McCurley and Kay Kellen, special cousin, Julia Ann Deas, and her UGNO "sisters" as well as numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, John W. Kellen, Jr. and Shirley Schroeder Kellen. Time with Martha always felt good. She was warm and gracious, witty and easy with her laughter. She was a true Southern lady, who handled a hard battle with lymphoma with grace and optimism.  Her family is glad she is at peace in heaven, but her presence will be missed. Visitation will be held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home Downtown Baton Rouge on Monday, June 11, 2018, at 9 a.m. followed by a service at 11 a.m. officiated by Pastor Scott Wright of NewSong Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Lymphoma Research Foundation in Martha's memory.

Martha and I shared the early years of motherhood, when our children were young. She was always such a joy to be with I have great memories of sitting in the driveway watching children play.
My deepest condolences to Mike, Kellen, Mary Catherine and Jack. The world is a less shiny place with Martha gone.

I was deeply sadden by the news. Your spirit in the battle of cancer was inspiring and you are a testament to strength and fearlessness. I will forever remember as I move forward in practice.
