Mrs. Martha R. Vaughan Gilliam, 87, of 3816 Ferndale Circle, Petersburg, Va., formerly of 14406 Madison Road, DeWitt, Va., departed this life on Monday, May 3, 2010, at the Golden Living Center, Petersburg, Va.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Addie Vaughan; her husband, Willie Herbert Gilliam; daughter, Vera Janett Jiggetts; sister, Clara Vaughan; and brother-in-law, Webster Madison.
She leaves to cherish her memories a devoted daughter, Dorothy G. Walker, devoted son-in-law, William Walker Jr., and son, Willie Herbert Gilliam Jr.; devoted twin sister, Mary Madison; son-in-law, Woodrow Jiggetts; 12 grandchildren, Woodrow Jiggetts Jr. (Linda), Keith Jiggetts, Priscilla Jiggetts, Angela Tucker (Donavan), Patricia Jiggetts, Stephanie Jiggetts, Christopher Jiggetts, Bernard R. Hays (Jasmine), Stacy Hayes (Anita), Danielle Gilliam, Autora Gilliam and Amber Gilliam; two stepgrandchildren, Corey Lassiter and Tiffany Coleman; 18 great-grandchildren; three great–great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Beatrice Goodwyn (William), Doris Brown (Joseph), devoted Catherine Gilliam, Marion Gilliam; devoted brothers-in-law, John Gilliam Jr., James Moore; a host of devoted nieces, nephews and cousins; devoted friend, Ida Jiggetts; caregivers, Gladys Wyatt, Nancy Ellis and Keith Jackson; her loving dog, Mollie.
A funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday, May 8, 2010, at the Center Star Baptist Church, Dinwiddie, with the pastor, the Rev. Jimmie L. Walker Sr., officiating, and the Rev. Dr. Earl Thompson Sr. eulogizing. Burial will follow at the Dinwiddie Memorial Park, Petersburg. The family will assemble at the residence of her daughter, 3816 Ferndale Circle, Petersburg, at 11 a.m. on the day of the service. Public viewing will be held on Friday, May 7, 2010, at the McKenney Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home.
