I remember Martha best from our years (1940-43) at Akron City Hospital, in Akron, Ohio. We students were a little band of sisters, struggling through the discipline of nurses'training. I, who had no siblings, experienced for the first time the joys of sisterhood. She helped me out of my lonely, shy and introverted ways.

Martha was an excellent nurse, a loyal friend, a wonderful mother. Her wide, cheerful smile, calm manner and loving spirit embraced us all. I'll always think of her...

I have never forgotten dear dear Mrs. Gullia. I can not express (without becoming tearful) her kindness to me. She must have known what a difficult situation it was with my poor mother. I just don't know. She never said and she never asked me any questions. Whether Mrs. Gullia was aware of my situation or not I do not know. But I DO know about her caring ways towards me and I shall never ever forget. She let me be a part of her family. She could have treated me as a nuisance, but she did...

Martha, my favorite bridge partner, my favorite tennis partner and my dearest friends whom I have missed more thanwords can express. Her smile, her wit and kindness will always be remembered by Gerald and I. She was my matron of honor at my wedding . She was my friend and companion as she was to many who loved her here in Akron.
