Not sure what to say?

Just rereading Marty's obit and seeing that how he was described is just how he was as a kid--really smart, funny, creative, generous. I was recalling us watching a Mets-Dodgers game and his commenting that Frank Howard's prodigious home run "hit the moon on a short hop." Watching the 1963 World Series we turned off the sound and did the play by play and color ourselves. We thought we knew more than Mel Allen and Red Barber. And in a non-sports moment, Marty orchestrated an Army game...

I am a very old friend of Marty's from Bayside and although he was almost four years older we had a great connection. For me he was an older brother and mentor. I became a Dodger fan and we shared the pain of '62 and the ecstasy of '63. Lupe,
This is Martin's cousin Lynne (My dad was his father's brother, Mendel).
It's true we lost touch with Martin for some years, not sure how it happened, but was very saddened and shocked to see this obituary this morning! It was forwarded to me by my sister Randy who received it from another cousin, Andy Messinger.
Please know, that my sadness and thoughts go out to you and your family at this time.
I will be thinking of all of you at this time, and my...

My friend since our days at UB, nearly fifty years. "An original" who will be truly missed. My deepest condolences.

Marty was one of the most down-to-earth, generous people I've ever had the pleasure to know and work with. His kindness to me on 9/11 really helped me not end up in Bellevue! Seriously - he helped many people that day by just taking the lead and calming everyone down - a monumental task and achievement. Such was Marty's way - to be there for people. I am very sad to hear about his untimely passing and I hope beautiful memories of his wonderful spirit help his family and friends get through...
