CICHY, Marvin Joe

Attorney Marvin Joe Cichy passed away unexpectedly on December 28, 2017, at Arcadia Methodist Hospital at the age of 77. The viewing will be at the Pierce Brothers Turner Stevens Mortuary - 1136 E. Las Tunas Dr., San Gabriel, CA, on January 4, 2018, from 5:00-9:00p.m. Funeral services will be held at the LDS Church at 150 W. Duarte Rd in Arcadia on Friday, January 5, 2018 - viewing from 9:00-10:00 a.m., services begin at 10:00 a.m.
Born in Seattle, WA, in 1940, Marvin moved to South Gate in 1945. He was a graduate of South Gate High School, Cal State Long Beach and the Western State University College of Law. In 1995, he also graduated from the U.S. Dept. of Justice, F.B.I. Investigation National Law Institute in Quantico, VA.
Marvin served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1959-1966, stationed in Okinawa, Japan and was part of the 1st Marine Rescue Unit, SHUFLY-Da Nang in 1963.
During most of his legal career, Marvin was in private practice, handling civil/criminal cases. He also served as Asst. City Attorney for the City of El Monte, and as a Juvenile Hearing Officer for the L. A. Superior Court.
Marvin served the residents of San Gabriel Valley in his capacity as Councilman and Mayor for the City of Rosemead, and as a Board Member for the Upper San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District, where he was recognized as an expert on water issues at the local and national level.
Marvin is survived by his wife of 29 years, Susan Larsen Cichy, two children, Rebecca Cichy Adling and Joseph Dillion Cichy, his brother William K. Cichy and six grandchildren.
His life was an example of dedicated service to his country and local communities. He impacted all he touched for the better and was one of a kind. He can never be replaced.
