Deepest condolences to Irving and family. ~ April Sandmeyer

I offer my most sincere and heartfelt condolence to the entire Berlin family... As a jazz radio host for nearly 40 years, rarely does a day go by that I am not reminded of the greatness of Irving. In my case, I owe a debt to Mary's uncle who as a surgeon saved my life at NYC's Medical Center in 1958 performing a miracle surgery on me when my parents were told there was no hope.

Rest peacefully, my dear friend Mary Ellin. My sympathy goes to your extended family. You were always an inspiration, a lover of music and theater, and a beloved friend to my whole family. You are in my heart. Heartfelt ondolences to the family.

I was so thrilled to meet her briefly at Symphony Space at my sons' Irving Berlin show a few years ago. I had read her memoir and watched interviews online -- her serious interest in the music really impressed and touched me. Thank you!
