I'm so sorry for your loss - he was clearly an extraordinary young man. I'm sure he made a real difference in the lives of the people with whom he worked in the Peace Corps. Please know that your friends at the law school are thinking of you.

My son was with Matthew in Mali. I hold all of the Peace Corps volunteers in the highest regard as I know how difficult the job is and how dedicated the volunteers are. They are very special people. I can only say how sad I am to lose both of them. As a parent I know how proud I am of my son, I know the grief you feel will be overcome by your feeling of pride for Matthew over time.

To The Costa Family: It is with my deepest sympathy I send you this condolence at the loss of your son, brother, grandson, nephew, and cousin. There are no words anyone can express to you at this time to lessen your pain but I prayer that in time you will heal and will be able to continue on with Matthew always in your hearts. Although Matthew's time on this earth was so short, you can be so proud of what an inspirational humanitarian he was, and all he accomplished. God Bless You.

Frank: We were stunned to learn of your son's passing. From what we've been told, he was an incredible young man and you have every reason to be proud of him. Please know that you and Dani are in our thoughts and prayers. We hope your memories, and the support of friends & family, will be a comfort to you. Sincerely...
