Matthew Allen Deets, 73, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, July 29th, 2025. Matthew was born to Clarence and Leona Deets on April 5th, 1952 in St. Joseph, Missouri where he spent his childhood until leaving the area to join the US Army in the fall of 1969.


On December 26th, 1969 Matthew was united in marriage to Paula (Bernard) in St. Joseph, Missouri. Which they celebrated 55 years of marriage.


Matthew served in the US Army from 1969 to 1992, serving as a Sergeant First Class.


Upon retiring from the US Army after 22 years of honored service, Matthew worked for the City of St. Joseph in the City Maintenance Department for another 15 years, until retirement.


In his years of retirement; Matthew enjoyed traveling, fishing, and spending time with his family, serving as the family handyman, and dog-sitting for his grand-dog, Lou Randall.


Matthew was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Ronald Deets, and sisters, Vicky Zeamer and Elizabeth Schroeder.


Survivors include: his wife of the home, Paula Deets, Sons, Matthew A. Deets, JR. and Gregory M. Deets (Raquel), and Daughter, Crystal D. Deets. Grandchildren, Samantha Deets, Matthew A. Deets III (Renay), Mercedes Deets (Diego Cardoso), Katrina Deets, and Tre' Deets. Great-grandchildren, Emilee Deets, Harmony Kreb, Matthew Deets IV, and Armando Cardoso. And his childhood best friend, Mike McCartney.


 


There will be private celebration of life planned at a later date.
