Lewis E. Wint and Son Funeral Home - Clarkston Obituary

Matthew Wayne Harris, MD of Clarkston MI born August 27, 1960, to Marquis and Norma Harris, passed away peacefully at home following a sudden cardiac event on April 23, 2025; aged 64. He is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Mary Harris, and his six children: Amanda, Josh, Marq (and his wife Manae, who is expectant with his first grandson), Micah, Anna (and her husband Tyler Acton), and Merrick. He is also survived by his father Marquis Harris, mother Norma Harris, brothers Michael & Marq Harris, and sister Cindy Zink. He is preceded in death by his sister Carol.

Matthew graduated from Clarkston High School, attended Oral Roberts and Oakland universities, and obtained his medical degree from Wayne State University. He completed his residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, MI. He considered his profession as a physician a calling. Through his 37 years of practice, first in Barboursville, WV and most recently in Grand Blanc, MI, he cared for each of his patients with the utmost empathy and devotion.

Matthew was a beloved son, husband, father, brother, doctor, and friend. Above all, he was a man of faith and modeled his life after the example of Jesus Christ. He was an active member at New Life Church in Huntington, WV and Bridgewood Church in Clarkston, MI. Matthew was a gift to all those around him, sharing his wisdom, patience, and helping hands to anyone in need. He called every day, “one of the best days of my life” and we are comforted knowing he lived a full, content life., and is now rejoicing in heaven. He would not have changed any part of his life, except perhaps having a bit more time. Gone too soon, he will be sorely missed.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 3rd at Bridgewood Church in Clarkston, MI where family and friends may visit starting at 3:00 pm with the service at 4:00 pm.

Not sure what to say?

I didn't know of this until July 29th. I feel such a loss, and will miss Dr. Harris. He was dependable for good advice, and gave encouragement. A sense of humor, and positive encouragement was how he spoke with patients. My mom saw him, also, in his medical practice. He was always right, spot on with diagnosis, and treatment. I wish that he had many more years. However, this time was God's plan. We don't have to understand why.

Matthew has been a light to my journey he's gonna be missed so desperately as when I heard about this I was out of town or otherwise I would of been at the service as my tears run as like a waterfall as he has always been so amazing as he has told me that I deserve more in life as in what he knew about me as of a patient as I will always cherish in my broken heart As the water falls as of an beautiful moment as we have shared many thoughts as he has had mentioned as of many times ...

Dr. Harris was my very first doctor and watch me grow up. I just learned of his passing and all my condolences go to his family. He was a wonderful doctor to me when I seen him. He was a wonderful doctor and man.

I am so sorry about Dr. Harris passing. We were newer to him. About 2 yrs. But my husband started going this past year. He really enjoyed his stories. Both had relatives in WV. He was very proud of his family. He was a believer in God and that was a big thing to me. God Bless to all ❤

Every time I saw Dr. Matthew Harris, he always made me smile. I first met him as a new patient at his Clarkston Office, and moved as his patient to his Flint Office/Surgery. He was a special person and Dr. and I enjoyed hearing his stories about his family and knowledge. I feel for everyone in his family, friends, patients and for the world. God brought him here for a reason..... Blessings RIP Dr. Matthew. He will be missed

Matthew Harris was one of the finest men I have ever met in my life. He was my father’s doctor, and subsequently he became my personal physician. He was so helpful and supportive during my father’s death, and he helped me get through two hip replacements. This news has hit me like a sharp punch to my gut. He was always so positive, so calm, his professional demeanor was second to none. May you RIP my friend, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.

I was a patient of Dr. Harris and am grateful to have met him. He went beyond being my doctor with discussions on life and world events. May our Lord, Jesus Christ, provide peace and strength to all his family in their journey ahead.

I recently learned about the sudden passing of my trusted and very special primary care physician, Dr. Harris. I was shocked for days. Not fully believing what I was reading. I wish I would have expressed to him what an impact he has made on my life.
It is so rare to find a doctor who truly cares about you and one that you can trust 100 percent. Dr. Harris always took the time to listen and I valued his opinion both medically and in relation to life in general. What a caring and...

I was a patient of Doctor Harris. He was the replacement for Doctor Benton whom I thought the world of. So I didn´t know what to expect with his replacement, Doctor Harris. I have to say I am beyond saddened by this. He was just a very nice man and I always enjoyed our visits. He will most definitely be missed. So sorry for your loss. Sending my congratulations.
