PUISSEGUR Maude Frances Marfese Puissegur, age 92, passed into eternal rest Sunday, October 24, 2010 in Macon, Georgia. She was born July 29, 1918 and was a lifelong resident of Mid-City here in New Orleans until September, 2005. Wife for 61 years of the late Ferdinand Arthur Puissegur. Mother of Bryce Frank Puissegur (Linda) of Macon, Mary Lynn Puissegur Lupo (Robert) of New Orleans, Jean Ann Puissegur Thomas (Mark) of Metairie, and the late Dennis Rivers Puissegur. Sister of Muriel Lillian Marfese Guenin. Grandmother to Dennis, Christie, Tom, Francesca, and Elise; and three great-grandchildren. Maude was a vibrant woman until just a few years ago, with a beautiful singing voice, an excellent piano player and lover of the performing arts, especially the musical comedy. Maude was a fan of nostalgia and was a frequent contributor to the Times-Picayune Newspaper segment "Pictures from the Past". She also contributed many memorable photographs to Mary Lou Widmer's book "New Orleans in the Twenties". Her greatest pride was her children and grandchildren whom she encouraged to achieve several post-graduate degrees. She loved to submit for publish all the cute things her children would say to "Bright Talks" in The Dixie Roto Magazine in the 1960's and 1970's. A graduate of John McDonough High School and Soule Business College, she worked for most of her life as a legal secretary until her mid-seventies. A Memorial Service conducted by Rev. Msgr. Ralph E. Carroll will be held Saturday, November 6, 2010 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, La, 70124 at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. If you would like to remember Maude, please make a contribution to Le Petit de Vieux Carre, or the poor box of St Anthony of Padua Church in her memory. My sincerest condolences.

Maude and my sister, Yvonne Duvic Finke, were the best of friends from the late 1920's on.
When I started high school in 1931, my father used to take the 3 of us in the morning. He would drop them off at McDonough High on Esplanade Ave. and me at Claiborne Ave. I would then walk to St. Aloysius High at Rampart St.

On a drive "across the lake", Maude, my best
friend Charlie Kussmaul, and I were in the back seat. Maude said something we didn't agree with so we put her on the floor & held her there for a while. When we let her up, she pretended to retaliate, but her laughter & smiles gave her away!

God bless her vivacious soul.

I will always remember and cherish my time working with Maude and our friendship. She was a beautiful person, and I just loved her keen sense of humor. Not a day went by that we did not have a big laugh together. I learned quite a bit from her. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. She will be missed.

I don't think I ever met Maude, but I do remember a story Bryce told me about her when we were both at Jesuit High School: that she was always writing stories about the funny things that the kids in her life said. She sent them to Dixie Roto--the Times-Picayune's Sunday magazine--and they'd frequently print them and send her three dollars.

May all memories of her be wonderful ones like that.
