I was one of the four finalists for the position of MCPON when Bob was selected in June 1975 for that position. Bob became a good friend and shipmate whom I respected and supported throughout his tenure as MCPON. I have many great memories of MCPON Bob Walker; we had some very good times over the years together and he will be greatly missed by old sailors who loved the Navy as he did, without reservation. I last saw MCPON Walker a couple of years ago. He worked as a liaison for Pioneer Financial Services and when I realized who he was, I found myself coming to attention as I spoke to him. He was so gracious to me. I told him, your my 1st MCPON when I joined, I proceeded to let him know that I was a retired Sr Chief myself and he put his hand on my shoulder and said here you go Senior Chief.
