Melba Louise Daliet Orticke

Melba Louise Daliet Orticke passed away on July 21, 2022 at the age of 100. She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Olivier and Beulah Elizabeth Frederick Daliet. She graduated from McDonough 35 and after raising her family went on to a long career as an administrative assistant with the United States Forestry Service. Melba was a member of both Epiphany Catholic Church and St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Montevallo, Alabama. She was also active in the Epiphany Sodality of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Ladies Auxiliary. In her free time, she loved gardening, cooking, playing Pokeno and Bonanza, and travelling. She was preceded in death by her parents, Olivier and Beulah Daliet; husband of 23 years, Joseph Manuel Orticke, Sr.; son, Joseph Byron Orticke; sisters, Vivian Bennette, Fredericka Beckham, Ethel Minor, and Eunice Consie Lear; and brother, Oliver Daliet. Melba is survived by daughter, Kristine Ann Orticke (Anthony Covington); son, Joseph Manuel Orticke, Jr.; and many nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors. The family would like to give special thanks to Father Adrian Cook, Lucy Mallery, Ann Tarnewha, Lisa McKinnon, Susan Hallsworth, and the staff of Oasis Hospice. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at Corpus Christi-Epiphany Catholic Church, 2022 St. Bernard Avenue in New Orleans, on Friday, August 5, 2022 at 10 AM.
