Melissa Abrams Obituary

ABRAMS, MELISSA COREY Melissa Corey Abrams born June 9,1972 in Chicago Illinois. Moving to Coral Gables as a toddler, she was a shining star to her adoring family. She is survived by Patty and Peter Abrams, her sister, Carly Abrams and adoring nephew Jake. Her devoted grandparents Florrie and Julie Tucker, (predeceased) her beautiful infant sister, Alexis Ives Abrams, Uncle Alan Stuart Tucker (predeceased) and great grandparents Charles and Bertha Tucker (predeceased). She was revered by her great Aunt Elkie Tucker, (predeceased). Other survivors include Great Aunts Marilyn and Shirley Seligman. Cousins, especially Neal and Kevin Heller who molded her into a Miami Hurricane fanatic (and a Jet fan). From the time she was born she exuded an enormous, infectious personality and great zest for living a full, independent life. Which she did! Despite being stricken with childhood nephrosis at the age of 7 and enduring painful, life threatening complications throughout her whole life, she continued to persevere. Eventually succumbing to cardiac valvular disease, January 10th 2017. She worked from the time she was 17. She was an intelligent, incredible, dynamic character. She succeeded in managing numerous restaurants and later worked as a medical assistant. Melissa established many lasting wonderful friendships that she treasured deeply (With special affection for the entire Lundstedt clan). Throughout her entire life, her uncanny spirit, strength and ability to display humor, love and fierce loyalty were never ending. She will always and forever be remembered with love and admiration. She'll be deeply missed and always adored by her heartbroken parents Patty and Peter Abrams, her loving sister Carly, her cherished nephew Jake, and her extended family and friends. To all her friends, our family wants to express a heartfelt thank you for standing with her and enriching her life and spirit always. You were a loving, amazing, strong, very capable woman. Melissa, rest in peace now. In lieu of flowers, donations to your choice of animal rescue organizations and no kill shelters would be Melissa's wishes, in honor of her much loved fur babies Bailey, Reese and Oscar.

Melissa and I were great friends in elementary school and I will always remember her as an energetic, laughing and smily girl who had so much fun playing with friends and having fun. She never let her challenges deter her from living life and that cute face I will always remember! I send prayers to the entire Abrams family during this difficult time. Goodbye sweet girl

My "Little" Melissa. She was small in stature but had the heart of a lion. My cousin, Melissa, was more like a little sister to me when she was young. I literally slept in the same room as her for 3 weeks in the summer of 1972 when she was a newborn baby in Chicago. A few years later when I was a student at the University of Miami I used to take her around with me everywhere. When I introduced her to star Hurricanes QB, Bernie Kosar and he gave her a kiss on the check her lifelong love of the Hurricanes was, indeed, cemented. She remained devoted to the NY Jets far longer than I did as I gave up on them long ago. It seemed Melissa fought illness from the day she was born. And boy was she a fighter. She lit up a room with her infectious smile and laugh all the while feeling the affects of a variety of ailments throughout her life. Her parents, Patty and Peter were always there for Melissa and supported her and fought alongside her everyday. Their love was unending for their little girl. Melissa adored her sister Carly from the day she was born. Melissa's grandparents Florrie and Julie were completely in love with Melissa. There wasn't anything they wouldn't do for her. Melissa looked at my brother Kevin as an older brother and they loved each other as well. Melissa welcomed my wife, Sheryl, into the family wholeheartedly. Melissa loved her younger cousins Ali and my son, Justin and they adored her. Melissa and my mom, her Great Aunt Marilyn had a deep affection for each other. Melissa was a great niece to my mom. When my dad, her Uncle Ira, was fighting cancer in his last years it was Melissa who would have endless conversations with him to help keep his spirits up. They were like kindred souls as who better than, Melissa, to understand what he was going through. My dad always had a soft spot in his heart for Melissa. Melissa worked for me at different times and she always had my back. She protected me fiercely. Melissa was always loyal to her family and her friends. Melissa was an inspiration to everyone around her. She always inspired me as she was so damn tough. She would get knocked down by sickness but always got back up. Melissa you were always special to me. I loved you from the day you were born and will always love you and think about you. You will be in my heart until the day I die. I will miss your smile, your laughter, your string bean casserole, and most of all you big, beautiful, huge heart. Rest In Peace, Cuz. I along with so many others will never forget you.

Better days ahead<br />

Through this time it is good to keep in mind that God hates death and is eager to bring back the dead to a resurrection of life. (1 Corinthians 15:26)

I had the pleasure of working with Melissa for many years when we worked together at ENT in Boynton Beach. I was able to see her every day and learn from her and grow from her knowledge. We also had a lot of laughs and went out making memories together. She was such an amazing, caring loving friend and I considered her like a big sister. She was just always there when I needed her the most I am so saddened that she is gone. My sincere condolences to her family. You will be missed
