Melody Miller

Despite the passing of three years since Melody passed, I continue to keep her alive in my heart & mind. She was one of the most exceptional friends during the entirety of my own life. Despite our membership in different political parties, our friendship resided at a higher level of life. She was a true person & true friend. Our many long lunches & phone conversations were always valuable experiences. One lunch from several years ago lasted for 7 hours in Georgetown. If we weren´t "curfewed"...

For the last twenty years, Melody & I became close & unusual friends. We met fortuitously in Senator Kennedy´s office in the Russell Senate Building. Beforehand, it had been Senator Laxalt´s office. She was intimate in the Kennedy -Democratic world, & I was intimate in the Reagan-Laxalt Republican world. Because of our common beliefs in the importance of participation & loyalty, it did not cause problems for us. Instead, it created a deep pond. My last conversation with her was just three...

I remember her in our shared senior year high school class in gym class at Yorktown HS, in Arlington. Most seniors did not take PE but I needed the credit to graduate. She however was a superb athlete, always smiling, upbeat and cordial. So years later I learned of her Kennedy affiliation after contacting her. She remarked “they always had the country’s best interest at heart.” So did she. RIP
