It's hard to believe that the news of Mike's illness and passing has taken so long to reach many of his Vancouver friends. Mike was a great friend to me during his years here, as well as being an important part of so many other peoples' lives. A true "genial curmudgeon", Mike was the only person I've ever met who could be completely irate about something, and moments later be laughing at himself for his own irascibility. Very sorry to read this obituary, We know Mike when he lived in Vancouver and was married to Mary Gooney, from Horse & Jockey, Co Tipperary, Eire. She now a resident of Crofton House in Vancouver. We socialized with them and helped them buy their first house in the Kerrisdale district of Vancouver. We have good memories of Mike.

Michael and I were friends and fellow classmates at UC Santa Barbara for the three years we attended there. I have such good memories of times with him, both serious (studying for finals) and not serious ( parties of various kinds and other sometimes crazy things). He led an interesting life and left good memories with everyone who knew him. I was out of touch with him in recent years and regret that. But I am glad for the memories and will treasure those.
