Not sure what to say?

I greatly enjoyed working with Mike over the years, first as a fellow teacher and later as Principal of John Muir. He was a talented, resourceful and irrepressibly energetic educator and colleague but, above all, he was a profoundly caring and empathetic human being. He will be missed by many and forgotten by none. My thoughts are with you, Merle, and with all of Mike's family.

I am so very sorry to hear of Mike's passing. I worked with Mike for many years at John Muir School - our classes were "buddies". Mike was a buddy to me as well - always kind and caring with a unique sense of humour and many stories to tell ! He was proud of and dedicated to his family and spoke of them often to me. My deepest sympathies to his family and friends.

I taught at John Muir School in Sooke for many years with Mike. He was a huge positive presence in the school and came back as a TOC frequently after he retired. "Mr.CM" as the kids called him could always be counted on to step in when you were sick, rarely needed a day plan and could entertain a class of 5 year olds all day with his stories. He was a big teddy bear of a guy, a gentle giant. My sincere condolences to Merle and his family.

It's been a few years since we last saw Mike but even then it was the same upbeat happy greeting we always received from Mike. We both taught with Mike in Sooke and when we think of his classes we always picture the hallways full of the "forts" he had the kids make with wood and glue. He encouraged a lot of engineers in so many ways and then there were his "science experiments" which the students loved. A story teller he was and he had a lot of experience and knowledge behind those stories....

An expected but very sad day. We will miss him dearly and take comfort in knowing the pain is gone and he is now entertaining everyone in Heaven with his stories.
