Michael Eddy Obituary

Born July 16, 1940 at Mercy Hospital, San Diego and passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2022, Colonel Eddy was a military leader and educator.

Colonel Eddy held numerous command assignments during his 31 year military career, his last as an assistant operations officer I-MEF at Camp Pendleton. Colonel Eddy retired from the Marine Corps Reserve in 1991 after being recalled to active duty and deployed to Operation Desert Storm. He continued as an administrator with the Grossmont Union High School District until 1999.

During his retirement he enjoyed staying in contact with his former Marines who often referred to him as "Iron Mike" as well as playing golf at Warner Hot Springs and Admiral Baker golf courses. While playing at Admiral Baker, Colonel Eddy scored his first and only "hole in one."

Colonel Eddy and his wife Marilu enjoyed their second home in La Paz, Mexico and they traveled extensively in Europe and South America. Always by his side were his two beautiful yellow labs, Scotch and Bear.

Annually Colonel Eddy joined his friends and rode with the PMP Trail Riders at the famous Mason Valley Ranch hosted by Don Daley Jr. and his son, Don Daley III.

Colonel Eddy will be remembered for his loyalty to his friends and family and his unique ability to mentor his fellow Marines and employees to achieve higher positions and success. He was a man of outstanding character and leadership.

Colonel Eddy was predeceased by his son, Timothy Michael Eddy and his mother, Mildred Delany Eddy. Survivors include his beautiful and devoted wife, Marilu, and his children, Christine Bisera-Morales, his two sons, and grandchildren, his sister-in-law Lilia Baca, brother-in-law Gerardo Baca, and Gerardo's daughters, Liliann Baca and Ellie Baca.

Mike was a great neighbor, friend, and patriot. I remember the day my dad interviewed him for his USMC commission. When my Dad died, it was Mike who called to let me know that I needed to get to the hospital. Mike wrote to me regularly when I deployed to Iraq and it meant the world to me. He was an inseparable part of my life. Rest in Peace Mike.

Marilu; Mike spoke so fondly of you; I was hoping we would meet last year in San Diego. Maybe another time.
Mike and I were Kappa Sigma Fraternity Brothers at San Diego State, and while living in the Frat house we enjoyed great times. Mike was also an Usher at our Wedding. Mike's passion for the Marine Corp was strong, and I compliment his career of 31 years.
God Bless You Mike. I love you man!

He was my High School Vice Principal. He was always so kind to me. He ended up moving in directly behind us when I was in school. Sorry for this worlds loss, I have the absolute fondest memories of him. I am saddened.

I last saw Colonel Eddy just after I had promoted to full Commander. I was in San Diego for a medical meeting and had made an impromptu visit to GHS. Captain Eddy taught my Civics class and I remember well the day he promoted to Major. His shined wing-tipped shoes with heel taps and smart pacing in the classroom resound in my memory. We discussed how the next war would be fought in the desert and reveled in the greatness of America and the blessings bestowed on our country. He and Mr. Fauth got me through some trying times in my senior year. Mentors and friends ... none better! Semper Fi Marine! Rest well.

During my 28 years of working in he Grossmont District I functioned as a teacher, counselor, and administrator. While at Grossmont, Chaparral and Foothills Adult Schools I had the privilege of working with Mike. He was usually decisive, thorough, and caring, but always student oriented. I still possess a valued picture of Bill Davis, Vern Finch, Joe Gizoni, and Mike standing near the cafeteria at Grossmont. What I most remember is Mike's sincere respect to the time and honored traditions of America. It was inherent in his serving with the Marine Corps for 31 years He was an unabashed patriot who always spoke positively about the virtues of America whether it was at Merle Smith's dwelling in La Mission, The Top Shelf Restaurant or some school function. Sincere condolences to the entire Mike Eddy family for his passing. May he find eternal rest among the many veterans at Miramar. Semper Fi

Mike Eddy and his family lived down the street from us. I remember the day his little boy Tim died. We were all in shock and devastated. Mike or Mr Eddy as I called him, was a friend of my late father and rode with him in The Los Senderos. Mr Eddy helped me transfer to Grossmont high school when I was struggling at the school I was attending. It made a big difference in my life. I remember one day I was stuck at school without a way home so I just went to his office and he drove me home. It´s strange to think that he is gone as I remember him so young and strong. But I know he is in heaven with God and Tim and he is at peace. I hope he sees my father too! Bless you Mr Eddy. Mary Dyer

Colonel Mike Eddy was my Commanding Officer of 4th Tank Battalion at the old Camp Elliott, in the early 1980s. Yes, he was an exemplary Leader and Mentor to all of us junior Marines. He inspired me to continue my Career in the Marine Reserve. Thank you Sir! Semper Fidelis. Lt Colonel Ron Watters USMC Retired

May our Lord's perpetual shine upon you, Mike Eddy, and may you rest in peace.

Many fond memories of Mike as we lived in the same neighborhood for over fifty years near both GHS as well as the GUHSD offices. On my many neighborhood walks, I would pass by Mike's home and we would take a moment to have an enjoyable chat. Mike expressed his love and allegiance for America as he proudly displayed our American flag daily in front of his home. It was inspirational!

I worked with Mike at GHS. Mike a strong Assistant principal with Bill Davis, and Vern Finch while I was a Spanish teacher.

In 1997, we worked together once again at the GUHSD office where Mike was a distinguished Director making a positive difference for students. Our offices were close and Mike offered valuable advise as well as encouragement as I was a new Director. I retired in 2000 and Mike continued as a Director.

I will keep Mike Eddy and his loved in my prayers.
